Description
Role
The University of Leicester is seeking a friendly, efficient and proactive Sports Assistant/Lifeguard to join the Sport & Active Life team. Working as part of a small team, you will help provide a welcoming, safe and accessible experience for everyone using the Sports Centre and associated facilities. The role will primarily involve lifeguarding and poolside duties at the Danielle Brown Sports Centre, with potential for cross-site working.
Alongside lifeguarding, you will contribute to the day-to-day operation of the facilities, including opening and securing facilities, taking bookings, supporting memberships and helping maintain a high standard of customer service. The role can involve lone working and limited periods of outdoor work.
Duties and responsibilities
You will supervise swimming pool users and wet-side facilities, welcome members, control access and provide information and assistance. You will complete general administrative activities, including sports-facility bookings and monitoring bather loads, while ensuring customers receive an inclusive and accessible service.
You will support the Centre's operational health and safety requirements, including pool and spa water testing, taking water and air temperatures every two hours while on poolside, reporting faulty equipment and completing designated cleaning duties. You will also act as a first responder to emergencies involving the swimming pool, sauna, steam room and spa pool.
Skills and experience
A current National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) is essential to this role.
You will have experience of working in a customer-service environment. You will need good written and verbal communication skills, IT literacy across Microsoft Office, accuracy and attention to detail, and the ability to provide good customer service. An understanding of safeguarding best practice and the ability to support equitable access to facilities and programmes are also essential.
Experience in a recreation or leisure environment, knowledge of health and safety procedures, a First Aid at Work certificate, Disability Inclusion Training or a Pool Plant Qualification would be advantageous. Flexibility, an ability to remain calm under pressure and multitask, and a friendly and professional approach are also desirable.
Location
Danielle Brown Sports Centre, University of Leicester (Potential for cross-site working, but a base site will be allocated to you if successful)
