Description

Role

We are looking for Finance Assistants to join a busy University finance team, based either within a College or a specific technical area. You will provide transactional finance support for teaching and research activities, helping to maintain effective business continuity during a period of change. The role is based primarily on the University’s Leicester campus.

Duties and responsibilities

You will check and approve electronic shopping carts and purchase requisitions, ensuring that appropriate documentation and approvals are in place, purchases are correctly coded and within available budgets, VAT is treated appropriately, and transactions comply with the University’s procurement policies and Financial Regulations. You will also investigate and resolve invoice queries and process expense claims where required.

You will help manage finance enquiries by triaging the team email inbox, responding to straightforward queries and allocating others appropriately. The wider Finance Assistant role may also involve maintaining accurate financial records, supporting budget reporting and liaising with University colleagues and suppliers to resolve purchasing and finance queries.

Skills and experience

You will have significant experience of electronic shopping cart processing and purchase order approval within a large, complex organisation, ideally using SAP or another enterprise-level finance system. You should be able to run budget reports, use Microsoft Outlook and Teams effectively, and demonstrate excellent communication, numeracy, accuracy and attention to detail.

You will be organised and able to prioritise your workload with minimal supervision while working effectively as part of a team. You will also need the confidence to raise questions when unsure and, where necessary, refuse purchases when the required approvals are not in place. Experience within Higher Education and of electronic purchasing systems is desirable.

Location
