Role
Student Copilot Navigators help ensure that students are active participants in how artificial intelligence is understood, discussed and adopted across the University. This is not a role for promoting AI uncritically, and you do not need to be an AI expert. You will bring student perspectives into the conversation, ask thoughtful questions, share experiences and help the University understand what responsible, inclusive and useful AI adoption looks like in practice..
We welcome students who use AI regularly, as well as those who are cautious, uncertain or have little experience of generative AI.
Start Date
Start date to be confirmed but induction likely to take place in December.
Duration
Fixed-term - duration to be confirmed.
Hours and Days
Approximately 1-3 hours per week, with flexibility around study and other commitments. Specific activities will be agreed through the Copilot Navigator Network.
Duties and responsibilities
- Gather and share views from other students through conversations, network discussions, events and feedback activities.
- Contribute student perspectives to meetings, workshops, consultations, pilots and evaluations.
- Review student-facing AI information and comment on its clarity, relevance, accessibility and usefulness.
- Test approved tools, resources or approaches and provide honest feedback on the student experience.
- Share examples of responsible practice and raise concerns about fairness, accessibility, privacy, confidence, assessment, academic integrity or unequal access.
- Identify where students may need clearer guidance, training, communication or support.
- Signpost students to approved University guidance and support. You will not be expected to provide technical or specialist advice.
- Contribute to activities promoting responsible, inclusive and informed AI literacy.
Skills and experience
Essential
- An interest in how AI may affect learning, teaching and the student experience.
- Willingness to represent a range of views, including perspectives different from your own.
- Confidence to ask questions, raise concerns and offer constructive feedback.
- An open and curious approach, with willingness to learn and reflect.
- Good communication and listening skills.
- Commitment to inclusion, responsible practice and respectful discussion.
- Reliability and willingness to participate when study commitments.
