Role
Support the delivery of university projects and programmes by coordinating activities, maintaining project documentation and governance, tracking progress and providing high-quality administrative and stakeholder support.
Duties and responsibilities
The Senior Project Support Officer reports to the Project Manager/Programme Manager and is key to the effective delivery of specific projects and programmes within the University’s change portfolio. The role is responsible for delivering consistent, high‑quality project administration and coordination, ensuring documentation, governance processes and portfolio data are maintained to agreed standards and remain accurate, timely and audit‑ready.
Working closely with Project Managers and wider delivery teams, the Senior Project Support Officer supports the planning and scheduling of activities, assists with RAID and benefits management and helps prepare project reports, dashboards and meeting packs for governance forums. The post holder plays a key role in tracking progress, updating registers and logs, coordinating project communications and ensuring that project controls are consistently applied.
The Senior Project Support Officer will bring strong organisational skills, attention to detail and a proactive approach to supporting multiple concurrent initiatives. Acting as a central point of coordination, they will help ensure that teams are well‑supported, information flows smoothly, and project delivery is underpinned by reliable processes, documentation and insights. The role will involve close collaboration with Project and Programme Managers, Business Change Managers, Project & Business Analysts, Portfolio Management Office (PMO) colleagues and other stakeholders to contribute to the overall quality, efficiency and professionalism of project delivery across the institution.
Skills and experience
- Educated to a minimum of ‘A’ level, or hold a Professional Qualification, or have equivalent General or Project Administration experience.
- Intermediate to advanced level proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other systems, including AI, project/programme management, data analysis and presentation tools.
- Good understanding of project and programme management methodologies.
- Experience of transformational change in higher education or similar environments.
- Previous administrative experience in a ‘front-facing’ or busy team environment.
- Experience of successful stakeholder engagement and the ability to deal with all levels of the organisation on sensitive and confidential issues, exercising tact, diplomacy and integrity at all times.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage and prioritise a complex and varied workload to meet deadlines.
- Project support experience, including programme tracking, project board support and servicing.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including communicating and influencing.
- High-level interpersonal communication skills, both written and oral, using a ‘customer-centred’ approach.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, including the ability to use initiative.
- Ability to work effectively under own direction as well as part of a team.
