Role

This role is ideal for an enthusiastic student who enjoys meeting people and creating memorable experiences. Successful applicants will be stationed across a variety of Halloween activities, including arts and crafts, pumpkin carving and the Ghost Walk. The role requires strong interpersonal skills, a positive attitude and the confidence to proactively engage with students throughout the event.

Applicants should be comfortable demonstrating simple arts and crafts activities and have prior experience of carving pumpkins, as they may be required to offer guidance and encouragement to participants. The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring attendees have a fun, safe and enjoyable experience.

Working hours: Wednesday 28th October, 10.30-3.30 – you must be available for the entire shift.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Welcome and engage with students attending the event, creating a friendly and inclusive atmosphere.
  • Support the delivery of arts and crafts activities, assisting students with creative projects and encouraging participation.
  • Oversee the pumpkin carving activity, providing guidance and demonstrating basic carving techniques where required.
  • Support the delivery of the Ghost Walk, helping to direct participants, answer questions and ensure a positive experience.
  • Encourage students to participate in activities and help maintain a fun and engaging environment throughout the event.
  • Provide excellent customer service, responding to queries and assisting attendees as needed.
  • Assist with setting up and clearing away activity areas before and after the event.
  • Monitor activity spaces to ensure they remain tidy, safe and well-stocked.
  • Report any issues or concerns to the Event Manager promptly.

Skills and experience

Essential

  • Confident spoken English and excellent communication skills.
  • Must be a current UoL student
  • Must be available for the entire shift duration
  • Friendly, approachable and comfortable interacting with a wide range of students.
  • Enthusiastic and able to engage participants in activities.
  • Previous experience of arts and crafts activities.
  • Experience of pumpkin carving and confidence in supporting others with basic carving techniques
  • .Reliable, punctual and able to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to provide a welcoming and positive customer-facing experience.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working at events, open days, welcome activities or community events.
  • Interest in Halloween-themed activities and student engagement.
  • Experience working with groups of participants in a customer service, volunteer or ambassador role.
