Description

Role

The NIHR Research Support Service Hub delivered by the University of Leicester and Partners is seeking an experienced and highly organised Writing Retreat Coordinator. The Hub supports researchers developing funding applications across the research pathway and brings together more than 20 research groups and trials units with expertise in applied health and care research.

You will coordinate a three-day residential writing retreat for researchers developing funding applications in methodological research. Based within the Division of Public Health and Epidemiology, you will manage the full retreat lifecycle, including project and budget management, candidate selection, stakeholder engagement, accessibility, risk management and evaluation. You will work under the direction of Dr Rebecca Barnes, Deputy Methods Development Workstream Lead.

Duties and responsibilities

You will lead the strategic planning and end-to-end delivery of the retreat, coordinate its working group and establish clear milestones and deadlines. You will oversee the operational and logistical arrangements, manage the budget and expenditure, and design a transparent, merit-based process for selecting participants. You will also monitor progress, identify risks and implement appropriate measures to ensure the retreat is delivered safely, professionally, on time and within budget.

Working collaboratively with researchers, RSS advisers, public contributors, guest speakers and other stakeholders, you will help create an accessible, inclusive and productive residential experience. You will conduct equality impact and risk assessments, develop an evaluation approach to capture the retreat’s value and impact, and communicate outcomes through high-quality reports, presentations, posters and other appropriate materials.

Skills and experience

You will have an undergraduate degree or equivalent professional experience, together with a project management qualification or equivalent experience. You will bring proven experience of designing and delivering high-quality, engaging and accessible learning and development events, managing initiatives involving multiple stakeholders, organising social or networking activities and administering budgets accurately. Experience of recruitment and selection processes, research environments, equality impact assessments or risk assessments would be advantageous.

You will have excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage competing priorities and build effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. Strong problem-solving, risk-management, IT and data presentation skills are essential, alongside excellent attention to detail and the ability to handle confidential information appropriately. You must be willing to travel as required and attend the three-day residential retreat.
