Role
The University of Surrey are recruiting a Sustainable Lab Assistant. Applicants are invited from lab-based subjects, though experience with sustainability of labs is not required.

This role would be perfect for 2nd/3rd year U/G or Master’s Students for the 26/27 academic year.
 
This role will help make the University’s wide range of laboratories more sustainable. This will involve working on a range of sustainability projects from waste management to behaviour change activities and the delivery of sustainability frameworks such as SPARKhub and the Lab Environmental Assessment Framework (LEAF).
 
£16.22 per hour.

£1.96 per hour holiday pay.

This role is for one day a week and will run for a maximum of 144 hours.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Managing LEAF submissions and related administrative tasks.
  • Coordinating audits.
  • Supporting the implementation of SPARKhub.
  • Managing the transition from LEAF to SPARKhub.
  • Supporting UniGreenScheme and related administrative tasks.
  • Supporting the Sustainability Team with queries from participating teams.
  • Managing sustainable lab communications and engagement.
  • Supporting the Sustainability team in wider sustainable lab projects.

Skills and experience

  • A willingness to learn.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Familiarity with laboratory environments.
  • Good working knowledge of IT – including Microsoft applications like excel and word. 
  • An interest in sustainability.

Additional information

This role will report to the Sustainability and Energy Assistant but will work closely with members of the Sustainability Team.
