Description

Role

TICE-HE is a project by the University of Warwick Department of Computer Science, Warwick’s Education Academy, and the Raspberry Pi Computing Education Research Centre at the University of Cambridge. The project will support a small group of computing academics to explore questions about their teaching. Project participants will collect and analyse evidence in relation to a small teaching inquiry, then share what they learn in case studies and resources that others can use.

We are looking for an experienced evaluator to lead the evaluation of this first run of the project. This will involve evaluation of participants’ experiences, as well as examination of the implementation of the project itself. You will work with the project team to agree specific evaluation objectives and methods. At the end of the project, you will write a short evaluation report including recommendations for improving the project and its resources.

The project runs from November 2026 to October 2027. We expect the work to take around 40 hours in total, spread across the year.

As an experienced evaluator, you will be able to plan and carry out the evaluation with limited supervision. The project team will provide overarching support, including access to project materials and participants, and help with ethics and data protection requirements.

Duties and responsibilities

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Developing an evaluation plan and focused questions, agreed with the project team, that address the pilot’s aims, delivery, participant experience and potential for use with future cohorts.
  • Designing and administering proportionate feedback methods, such as short surveys, interviews or reflective prompts, and reviewing relevant project materials and participant outputs.
  • Planning data collection at suitable points across the project, liaising with participants and managing evaluation activity within the agreed 40 hours.
  • Handling participant data confidentially and working within the project’s approved ethics and data protection arrangements.
  • Analysing qualitative and, where appropriate, quantitative evidence - identifying strengths, limitations and areas for improvement.
  • Producing a concise evaluation report with clear findings, supporting evidence and actionable recommendations, and discussing the findings with the project team.

Skills and experience

Essential skills and experience:

  • Current postgraduate student with an interest in higher education teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrable experience of designing and leading evaluations of education, professional development or similar projects.
  • Strong qualitative research skills, including designing data collection tools, interviewing or gathering feedback, and analysing qualitative data.
  • Ability to make sound evaluative judgements from a small pilot and communicate findings clearly, including limitations and practical recommendations.
  • Excellent written communication, organisation and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage a limited allocation of hours and meet agreed milestones.
  • Understanding of research ethics, confidentiality and secure handling of participant data

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Experience in higher education, computing education research or scholarship of teaching and learning.
  • Experience evaluating practitioner inquiry or academic development programmes.
  • Experience combining qualitative feedback with simple quantitative analysis.

Location
Primarily remote, with online meetings with the project team and participants. Any attendance at Warwick or Cambridge would be agreed in advance and subject to available expenses.
