Newcastle University is offering an exciting opportunity for two enthusiastic students hosts for its flagship podcast, From Newcastle.

From Newcastle, is a fortnightly podcast featuring the latest developments in health, science and culture and the creative arts from Newcastle University. Listen to previous episodes here: https://podcasts.ncl.ac.uk/fromnewcastle/.

This is an opportunity for you to be the voice and face of the podcast, as we begin producing video episodes from Autumn 2026. You will be working alongside the our Podcast Producer Intern, the Corporate Events Team and Marketing team within Professional Services on this project.Each episode will feature an interview with a different Newcastle University academic or colleague. Listeners include students, staff and the public. Your role as host will be to research the guest, prepare questions for interviews and record additional voice-overs as needed. 

We are looking for confident communicators who are comfortable speaking in front of a camera and have a clear broadcasting voice. 

Each recording will take around 1.5 hours and you can expect to work for around 18 hours during October and November. You will need to be flexible around the availability of the guests. Recordings will take place on campus, in the studio based at Newcastle University Medical School within normal office hours (Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm) . 

You will be required to upload a cover letter and send a video as part of your application. If you are shortlisted for the role, you will then be invited to an interview and screen test.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Background research on topics for podcast episodes
  • Interviewing guests (Newcastle University academics and colleagues)
  • Recording supplementary content
