Role

This role will involve assisting the Careers team with ensuring the delivery of work experience and careers education and the marketing and administration of Newcastle University’s Low Carbon North: Collaborative Experiential Learning for a Sustainable Future Program. The program is delivered jointly with Durham University, funded by Northern Net Zero Accelerator, and aims to strengthen the graduate skills pipeline into the renewable energies sector, deepen employer engagement, and create a legacy of improved careers education across the Northeast. This internship would suit a strategic and well organised student with an interest in project management and regional business development, seeking to enhance their broader employability skills alongside their academic studies.

The postholder will have the opportunity to gain experience in marketing and project administration by supporting with a range of marketing tasks, event logistics, project and stakeholder management and a final project evaluation. This is likely to include the development of new resources (e.g. factsheets, sector guides), peer to peer social media marketing, and in person engagement with students, employers & academics during forums, panels & offsite visits. The successful candidate will also be supporting various teams and units with the delivery of low carbon and renewable energy industry and employability events across campus for the benefit of students. The role may also involve working with, and providing a high standard of customer service to, a range of stakeholders including students, university staff, employers, and project partners.

  • Working hours: 38 hrs per month (approx. 9.5 hrs per week during term time). The days and times of work are negotiable. The post holder will be required to work flexibly, with a hybrid pattern of work (some office based on campus, some home working).
  • This is a term time role, to start around 26/10/26 until 30/6/27.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Work alongside the Careers team and School/Faculty-based colleagues to support the delivery of the Low Carbon North Project, along with project team colleagues from Durham University and other external partners linked to the project
  • Coordinate administration and logistics for program events
  • Undertake the marketing and promotion of key project deliverables such as experiential learning opportunities, events & offsite visits to businesses, students, academics and other stakeholders
  • Develop new careers education resources (e.g. factsheets, sector guides) to address knowledge gaps in the offshore wind and low carbon energy sector
  • Contribute to an evaluation of the programme, resulting in an end point presentation to key partners on learnings and recommendations
  • Provide Careers team with feedback and insight into the student voice
  • Plan and prioritise own work, adhering to agreed deliverables and timeframes and referring any

Skills and experience

  • Knowledge, experience or interest in sustainability and the renewable energy sector
  • Ability to think creatively and proactively contribute ideas
  • Understanding of how to use social media and marketing techniques to engage students
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills
  • Administration and MS Office skills, including knowledge of Excel for basic data collation and analysis
  • Ability to manage, prioritise and take responsibility for own work
  • Reliable and professional personal conduct, always understanding the need for confidentiality

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of the services offered by the Careers service
  • Understanding of the benefits of work experience for students and employers
  • Experience of working professionally with a number of stakeholders including students, staff and employers
