  • Agree appropriate outcomes with students, monitor progress and maintain accurate records.
  • Work collaboratively with curriculum staff to identify and implement strategies that support high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Plan, create and source appropriate learning and support resources.
  • Support the Head and Deputy Head of Welfare and Skills with assessments to identify students' individual needs.
  • Support the implementation of appropriate access arrangements.
  • Contribute to transition planning for prospective and existing students.
  • Liaise effectively with parents/carers, external agencies and other professionals where appropriate.
  • Contribute to the delivery and review of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), where appropriate.
  • Provide a positive, inclusive and supportive learning environment and act as a positive role model for students.
  • Liaise with Personal Progress Mentors, Heads of Studies and subject staff to monitor and support academic progress.
  • Contribute to the operation of the College's Fitness to Study policy and wider welfare and skills initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records relating to students requiring support.
  • Attend relevant internal and external meetings.
  • Contribute to student and parent/carer advice events, including occasional evening events.
  • Keep up to date with developments and initiatives in learning support.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of services provided by the College.

Safeguarding and wider responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of students in accordance with College policies and procedures.
  • Promote equality, diversity and inclusion and uphold the College's commitment to valuing all members of its community.
  • Follow relevant Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Support and promote the College's mission and values.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the services offered by the College.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties within the scope of the role as required.

Skills and experience

Essential:

  • GCSE Grade C/4 or above in Maths and English, or equivalent.
  • A minimum of two A Levels or an equivalent Level 3 qualification.
  • Experience of working with young people.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience of working professionally and confidentially in a student-focused environment.
  • Experience of producing learning and teaching materials.
  • Experience of working in an administrative capacity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents/carers and colleagues.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students.
  • Confidence and competence using IT in a working environment.
  • A positive attitude towards students and a genuine commitment to their success.
  • A commitment to continuing professional development.
