Role

Student Creator - Role Overview - Open to DMU students only 

The Student Creator role is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students from all academic disciplines. Student Creators represent the university both on campus and online, acting as the face of the institution. They play a key role in supporting student recruitment, outreach, and engagement by delivering a welcoming, informative, and professional experience for prospective students, their families, schools, colleges, and other stakeholders.

Student Creators are expected to communicate accurately and confidently, promote the university's values, and provide excellent customer service across a range of activities and communication channels.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Always represent the university professionally, delivering an outstanding customer experience that reflects the university's values.
  • Support student recruitment, outreach, and engagement activities both on campus and online.
  • Share your student journey by planning, filming, and editing engaging content - including vlogs, social media posts (e.g., TikToks, Instagram Reels), Live Streams, photography, and video campaigns.
  • Understand that all media, raw footage, and content produced within the role will be owned and utilized by the university across its official marketing channels and media library.
  • Respond professionally to enquiries via face-to-face interactions, telephone, email, and digital communication platforms.
  • Assist with the planning, preparation, setup, operation, and dismantling of recruitment events and promotional activities.
  • Complete administrative and clerical tasks, including accurately recording information and maintaining data using university systems.
  • Work collaboratively with university staff and fellow creators while also using initiative to work independently when required.
  • Consistently achieve agreed performance targets and key performance indicators (KPIs) while maintaining high standards of service.
  • Comply with all university policies and procedures, including safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion, health and safety, manual handling, data protection, and information security.
  • Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role as reasonably requested by the hiring manager.

Skills and experience

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the confidence to engage diverse audiences across a range of communication channels.
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills, with experience presenting to groups or large audiences.
  • Friendly, approachable, professional, and customer-focused, with a genuine enthusiasm for representing the university.
  • Ability to build positive relationships and work effectively with colleagues, prospective students, families, schools, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong familiarity with popular social media platforms (TikTok, Instagram, YouTube) and current digital content trends.
  • Hands-on experience with mobile video recording, basic photography, and video editing apps/tools (e.g., CapCut, Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, or built-in mobile editors).
  • High degree of confidence presenting on camera, speaking during live streams, or conducting casual on-campus interviews.
  • Basic understanding of visual composition, framing, lighting, and creating content that aligns with university branding.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also working independently using initiative and minimal supervision.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands, manage multiple tasks, and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Reliable, attentive to detail, and able to follow instructions while maintaining high standards of accuracy.
  • Target-driven, with the ability to consistently meet performance expectations and KPIs.
  • Competent IT skills, including experience using Microsoft Office applications and digital communication platforms.
  • Demonstrates honesty, integrity, professionalism, and respect in all interactions.
