Legal and Governance Services comprises of 3 teams: Legal, Data Protection and Secretariat.  

This is an exciting opportunity for students to gain a variety of experience working inhouse with LJMU’s commercial and employment lawyers. 

They will also work with the Data Protection team to understand the university's statutory obligations relating to data protection, information rights, and governance risks and with the Secretariat to gain knowledge of higher education governance and the university's governance framework, as well as the role of the Secretariat in supporting effective decision-making and regulatory compliance across the institution.

Duties and responsibilities

The internships will be for 8 days in total comprising 2 days a week over a 4 /5-week period beginning w/c 9th November 2026 and ending no later than 11th December 2026.  Days will be flexible around the student’s timetable.

 

Internships will involve the students shadowing members of the LJMU Legal and Governance team to experience the life as an in-house lawyer typically including: 

  • Spending time with our in house solicitors in different practice areas to find out about what the role involves
  • Accompanying officers to team meetings,
  • Assisting with research
  • Drafting documents
  • Attending meetings with clients 
  • Assisting with administrative duties.

We are looking for students with:

  • A genuine interest in finding out about in-house legal and governance opportunities.
  • An understanding of and respect for client confidentiality and data protection requirements.
  • A high standard of verbal and written communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm to learn and grow their knowledge.
  • Must also be punctual and reliable.
