Social Infrastructure and Young Peoples Mental Health Research Intern

 
Job Description 
 
Social infrastructure refers to the physical spaces, facilities, institutions and networks that support human development and community life. A growing body of research is now focused on the role of social infrastructure and its importance to the wellbeing of communities. Equal Vision is keen to understand the evidence based addressing social infrastructure and young peoples mental health.
 
Equal Vision is seeking an enthusiastic research intern to use systematic literature review methods to explore evidence about the built environment, and to draw conclusions about the ways in which it influences young peoples mental health.
 
This placement focuses on young peoples mental health and involves producing a short report.
  • Carrying out a systematic review of peer-reviewed literature on social infrastructure and its impact on health outcomes limited to one database with full support provided.
  • Producing a short report that includes a brief literature review, a presentation of findings, and opportunities to carry out first hand research.

Duties and responsibilities
Main Responsibilities

  • Critically reviewing relevant academic literature and staying abreast of policy developments.
  • Collaborating with the project manager and research assistant to develop and implement a data collection plan.
  • Compiling and analysing data from the systematic review to summarize main findings.
  • Writing an evidence-based research report for publication, including appropriate literature reviews.
 

Skills and experience
Qualifications and Knowledge

 
  • Essential: Working towards an undergraduate qualification in an area of social justice (e.g., sociology, criminology, social care, social policy) 
  • Essential: Good knowledge of research literature surrounding the social determinants of health or a closely related discourse. 
  • Essential: An awareness of the specific inequalities experienced by young people in Toxteth.

Experience

  • Essential: A willingness to gain practical experience in conducting research within the social justice sector, specifically involving co-production methodologies.
  • Essential: A willingness to gain hands-on experience working directly with disadvantaged groups.• Desirable: A basic theoretical or practical understanding of research ethics.

Skills and Abilities 

  • Essential: Excellent communication, organisational, and time-management skills.
  • Essential: Highly organised, self-motivated, and able to approach tasks with creativity and a problem-solving mindset.
  • Essential: Strongly committed to personal career development, including a proactive willingness to seek support and identify training opportunities.
