Description
Role
The University of Leicester is seeking a friendly, efficient, and proactive Sports Centre Receptionist to join our Sport & Active Life team. As the first point of contact for members and visitors, the Front of House plays a vital role in ensuring a high-quality experience and smooth operation of our facilities.
Duties and responsibilities
You will welcome members and visitors, control access to the facilities, respond to enquiries and provide accurate information about facilities, services and memberships. You will manage bookings through the dedicated online system, administer membership schemes, provide tours where required and complete associated paperwork and general administrative tasks. You will also collect cash and card payments for facilities, classes and memberships, maintaining accurate records and handling information securely.
You will support the day-to-day implementation of operational health and safety procedures and will act as a designated first responder to emergencies involving the swimming pool, sauna, steam room or spa pool. You will therefore be required to undertake training and achieve the NaRS Pool Attendant qualification unless you already hold it. The role also involves working effectively with colleagues across the department and engaging professionally with students, staff, members of the public, alumni, external groups and visitors.
Skills and experience
You will have five GCSEs at grade C or above, or equivalent qualifications, together with previous relevant experience in a recreational or leisure environment and experience of delivering good customer service. You will have sound knowledge of health and safety policies and procedures, an interest in sport and fitness, good written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work accurately with attention to detail.
You will be approachable, courteous and able to exchange information clearly and effectively with a wide range of facility users. You must be able to remain calm, take charge and organise others during an emergency, work flexibly within a shift pattern and demonstrate empathy for the student environment. A current First Aid at Work certificate, NPLQ Lifeguard Qualification, Pool Plant Operators Certificate or STA NaRS Pool Attendant Certificate would be advantageous but is not essential.
