Unitemps are recruiting for 3 CIREN Coordinator Roles; this role is suitable for current UCL PHD and Masters Students Only. This role is for a October 12th start date and has a projected end date of May 14th 2027. This is a part-time role at 5 hours per week. Payment is set at £20.92 per hour + £3.92 holiday pay. This role is hybrid working with 1 day per month on UCL campus and the other days from home/remote.
 

CIREN is a cross-UCL network established in 2025 in UCL Department of Earth Sciences. The group aims to foster networking and building connections throughout UCL’s diverse climate research community, mapping activity across UCL and bringing together teams, groups, departments, and faculties.

Duties and responsibilities

There are three roles available to support with the running and development of CIREN:

CIREN Events and Online Coordinator

CIREN Community Coordinator

CIREN Development Coordinator

1. CIREN Events and Online Coordinator

Job Description:

The CIREN Events and Online Coordinator will support the delivery of a programme of activities that enhance the visibility, connectivity and impact of climate research across UCL. 

The postholder will coordinate CIREN events, manage communications and online content, and help engage members through writing and disseminating regular updates and opportunities.

Key responsibilities:

Coordinate the planning and delivery of CIREN events, seminars and workshops.

Liaise with speakers, attendees and relevant UCL services, including any catering and venue bookings.

Create, maintain and update CIREN website and social media content including text, images and videos.

Prepare and distribute newsletters, funding alerts and other communications.Conduct surveys and gather feedback from members to inform CIREN activities.

Support engagement with related climate initiatives across UCL.Work with the CIREN Lead and Steering Committee, providing updates and taking on board suggestions and feedback

2. CIREN Community Coordinator

Job Description:

The CIREN Community Coordinator will strengthen and expand the climate research network across UCL by mapping expertise, identifying opportunities for collaboration, and supporting an inclusive and engaged community of researchers.

Key responsibilities:

Map climate-related research expertise, networks and activities across UCL.

Develop profiles and case studies that highlight climate researchers and projects.

Maintain and update CIREN membership and mailing lists.Identify and investigate opportunities and challenges relating to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, particularly for Early Career Researchers.

Support engagement between CIREN and related UCL climate initiatives.

Identify community needs and opportunities for new collaborative activities.

Work with the CIREN Lead and Steering Committee, providing updates and taking on board suggestions and feedback

3. CIREN Development Coordinator

Job Description:

The CIREN Development Coordinator will support the strategic development of the network by investigating future organisational models, funding opportunities and long-term sustainability options for coordinated climate science activities at UCL.

Key responsibilities:

Review the structure, governance and funding models of comparable climate research networks, centres and institutes.

Identify opportunities for sustainable funding.

Analyse options for the future development of CIREN and coordinated climate science activities at UCL.

Engage with key stakeholders to understand strategic priorities and opportunities.

Contribute to the development of a long-term strategy operational and sustainability business plan.

Collate and organise information, for example in reports.

Work with the CIREN Lead and Steering Committee, providing updates and taking on board suggestions and feedback.

Skills and experience

There are three roles available to UCL Masters and PhD students. When you apply, please explain how you meet the person specification.

1. CIREN Events and Online Coordinator

Essential:

  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.Interest in coordinating events or meetings.
  • Interest in managing websites, newsletters or social media content.
  • Ability to balance taking on board feedback and working collaboratively with independence and managing a self-directed project.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with UCL systems and communications channels.
  • Experience using website content management systems and social media analytics.
  • Experience supporting academic or research networks.

2. CIREN Community Coordinator

Essential:

  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to collect, organise and analyse information.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Understanding of EDI principles in a research and/or education environment.
  • Ability to balance taking on board feedback and working collaboratively with independence and managing a self-directed project.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the climate research landscape within higher education.
  • Experience conducting surveys, interviews or community consultations.
  • Experience supporting Early Career Researcher initiatives.

3. CIREN Development Coordinator

Essential:

  • Strong analytical and business organisation/research skills.
  • Ability to synthesise information and produce concise reports and recommendations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to balance taking on board feedback and working collaboratively with independence and managing a self-directed project.
  • Interest in research strategy, organisational development and climate science.

Desirable:

  • Experience of research funding, strategy or policy development.
  • Knowledge of higher education structures and research institutes.
  • Experience preparing business cases, funding proposals or strategic reviews.

Location
UCL; hybrid working, 1 day per month from campus and the other days (hours) from home
