Only for current MDX students

The Student Partnership Board was set up as a collaborative initiate between MDXSU and Middlesex University as part of the University’s commitment to its Access and Participation Plan (APP), work on student success and to continue to effectively embed an approach of working in partnership with students.
 
The aim of the board is to bring together a diverse group of students to work in partnership with Middlesex University and MDXSU. Members will identify priorities, share their own experiences, gather wider student insights, co-design policies and projects, constructively challenge existing approaches, and help shape decisions that affect the student experience.
 
Key aims include:
  • To represent, recognise, and empower a diversity of student voices.
  • Ensure that students are treated as partners and embed student voice into project development and decision-making processes.
  • To accurately communicate student views and provide key insights to the University and MDXSU of lived experiences of students.
  • To create a dedicated and sustainable student-staff feedback mechanism.

Duties and responsibilities
You will be expected to:

  • Support the direction and delivery of the Student Partnership Board (SPB) by contributing to agendas, chairing meetings, inviting relevant stakeholders and ensuring agreed actions are followed up.
  • Gather and represent student views through focus groups, conversations and other feedback activities, ensuring the wider student voice informs the Board’s work.
  • Identify issues affecting students and develop ideas, projects, policy recommendations and proposals for improvement.
  • Communicate the work and impact of the SPB to students and staff, demonstrating how student feedback has influenced change.
  • Maintain regular communication with the MDXSU Student Voice Team and manage the SPB inbox, responding to relevant enquiries and opportunities.
  • Represent the SPB at relevant University and Students’ Union meetings, focus groups and other engagement opportunities.
  • Contribute to University priorities, including the Access and Participation Plan (APP), by reviewing and providing student input into relevant projects, policies and initiatives.
  • Participate actively in the wider democratic community, including attending Union Council meetings.
  • Attend relevant training and development and work collaboratively with other Board members, students and staff.
  • Support staff members to understand and strengthen understanding of the student experience through the reverse mentoring scheme.

Skills and experience
Essential:

  • Current Middlesex University student, enrolled in the 2026–27 academic year.
  • Current Middlesex University student, enrolled in the 2026–27 academic year.
  • Able to listen to and represent views that may differ from your own.
  • Able to communicate respectfully and work collaboratively with students and staff.
  • Willingness to constructively challenge ideas and contribute solutions.
  • Reliable and able to manage your time and commitments effectively.
  • Able to handle sensitive information and respect confidentiality.
Desirable:
  • Experience of gathering feedback or facilitating discussions.
  • Experience of representing or advocating for others.
  • An understanding of barriers or challenges affecting a diverse range of students, gained through personal lived experience or experience supporting others.
  • Experience of mentoring, coaching or supporting others.
  • Experience of contributing to a project, campaign or initiative.
  • Experience of chairing meetings, presenting or speaking in group settings.
