This is a paid opportunity for current University of Leicester students to work in partnership with staff on projects that enhance learning, teaching and the wider student experience. 
 
The Curriculum Consultants initiative supports projects aligned to key University priorities including Research-Inspired Education, Sustainability, Work-Related Learning, Inclusivity and Belonging. 
 
Curriculum Consultants bring their perspectives, experiences and skills to investigate opportunities, gather and analyse student insight, evaluate initiatives, and co-create recommendations that contribute to meaningful educational enhancement. We assign each Consultant to a project to investigate and research opportunities, or help to implement changes, projects may focus on areas such as curriculum design, sustainability, employability, student engagement, assessment and feedback, belonging, research-informed learning, community partnerships, student support, or other strategic education priorities.
 
Previous Consultants have:
  • Evaluated student support initiatives
  • Investigated barriers to engagement and belonging
  • Developed recommendations for learning and teaching enhancement
  • Explored student perspectives on curriculum and assessment
  • Contributed to pilots, resources and educational improvement projects
 
Through the projects, you will build a range of transferrable skills, such as research, communication, time management, independence and leadership. You will receive support and training throughout on data collection, analysis, and focus group facilitation.
 
Curriculum Consultants work no more than 6 hours per week. You will be in the role during terms 1 and 2 (not working over the Christmas or exam period), ending the role and any projects before the Easter break. The work may involve a mix of on-campus and remote working and meetings. Outside of scheduled meetings, previous Curriculum Consultants have told us they love the flexibility to choose where and when to complete the rest of the working hours

Duties and responsibilities

  • Work together with Schools/Teams and potentially other Curriculum Consultants to develop and deliver projects/investigations, ensuring milestones are met and any changes are delivered effectively. 
  • Manage organisation, communication and engagement of project activities. 
  • Produce reports as needed, such as recommendations, final reports, and follow-up activities.
  • To participate in provided training to support the role and learn on the job. 
  • Regularly meet with the project team to monitor progress, receive support and tackle barriers that may arise.
  • Contribute to recommendations, resources, reports, presentations or implementation plans arising from project work. 
  • Share experiences and best practice with the other Curriculum Consultants, problem solving and receiving suggestions on approaches. 
  • Be required at all times to develop and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, students, external stakeholders (if applicable) and all other individuals they come into contact with in the course of their duties. 
  • Apply discretion and confidentiality in regards to any sensitive information received in the course of duties. 
  • Carry out any other reasonable duty requested of them as appropriate within the parameter of the role.

Skills and experience

Essential

  • Interest in making significant change to the learning experience of students 
  • Interest in one or more of the University's strategic education priorities, including inclusivity and belonging, sustainability, work-related learning, or research-inspired education
  • Have a proactive nature 
  • Evidence of reliability and trustworthiness 
  • A willing team player with a positive attitude towards change and learning.
  • Competent in using IT and quick to pick up new skills 
  • Verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to relate to people at all levels 
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to handle competing priorities

Desirable

  • Experience of managing and/or supporting projects from inception through to completion and evaluation
  • Experience or interest in research projects
