Download application form  Marketing & Communications Assistant InternThe Marketing & Communications Assistant Intern will support our Marketing & Communications Manager in delivering engaging, consistent communications across our digital and physical channels. They will help capture and share the activity taking place across our organisation, promote opportunities and events, and support the creation of content that reflects our communities, projects and impact.The role will also provide opportunities to work with colleagues across our organisation and gain insight into how marketing supports community engagement, creative programmes, events, workspace, partnerships and commissioned projects. We want this to be a developmental role. The intern will be supported to experiment with different forms of content, develop their own creative voice and build a portfolio of practical marketing and communications experience during their time with us.Our organisation provides creative spaces and support for a vibrant community of makers, artists, small businesses and local communities. Our work spans workspace and community development through to public programmes, events and creative projects, giving the intern exposure to a broad range of marketing and communications activity. The main purpose of the role is to support the Marketing & Communications Manager in creating engaging, consistent content across our digital and physical channels. The intern will gain hands on experience of how communications are planned, created, published and evaluated within a busy creative organisation.
Duties and responsibilities
Main Responsibilities:
- Supporting the creation and scheduling of content across our social media channels.
- Helping capture photography and short-form video content from our spaces, events, projects and community activity.
- Supporting the creation of simple graphics, reels, stories and other digital content.
- Helping keep our website up to date with events, opportunities, news and project information.
- Supporting the preparation and distribution of newsletters and email communications.
- Writing and adapting short pieces of copy for social media, websites, newsletters and promotional materials.
- Helping identify interesting stories from across our resident, maker and creative communities.
- Supporting marketing campaigns for events, programmes, commissions, spaces and opportunities.
- Helping document projects and events through photographs, video, quotes and other content.
- Supporting the organisation of digital assets, photography and marketing materials.
- Helping monitor engagement and basic marketing data to understand how different content performs.
- Attending relevant team and project meetings and contributing ideas for content and campaigns.
Working closely with the Marketing & Communications Manager, the intern will gain experience of the full process behind our communications; from identifying a story or opportunity, through planning and creating content, to publishing it and understanding how audiences respond.
Skills and experience
Qualifications, Skills & Experience Required:Essential
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with an interest in developing these further.
- An interest in social media, digital content, storytelling or communications.
- A creative eye and an enthusiasm for finding interesting ways to communicate ideas and stories.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Confidence using everyday digital platforms and a willingness to learn new tools and software.
- Able to work collaboratively and take direction while also contributing ideas.
- Curious, proactive and willing to get involved in a varied range of activities.
- Reliable and able to manage tasks and deadlines with support from the wider team.
Desirable
- Some experience creating content for social media, whether personally, through education, volunteering or previous work.
- An interest in photography, video, graphic design, writing or other forms of content creation.
- Some familiarity with tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut or similar creative platforms.
- An interest in arts, culture, creative industries, social enterprise or community-led work.
- Experience using social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn or TikTok.
- Some experience of websites, email marketing platforms or basic analytics would be useful, but is not essential.
Weʼre looking for someone who is curious, creative and interested in learning how good communications can help people connect with places, projects and opportunities. You donʼt need to arrive with professional marketing experience- this is an internship and we want to provide space to learn, experiment and develop.
We particularly value someone who notices the interesting things happening around them and is excited by the idea of turning those moments into stories, photographs, videos or content that other people want to engage with. We value a variety of backgrounds and experiences and encourage applications from students who may not have previously considered working in the creative or cultural sector.
