Costume Design trainee / Costume Archive trainee

Working with Holly Rebecca and her team on any current Costume Design projects, and / or working on site at Unit27's costume archive, maintaining / managing stock and helping towards documenting a running inventory

The student will be working alongside me and my team in both costume design work in film and tv, and also in my studio which is hired out by other costume designers for costume archive rentals, fittings and work room use.  

Duties and responsibilities

  • When working with me on productions and commercials they will learn the process of what it is to be in the costume design department 
  • Reading treatments
  • Supporting in creating costume boards
  • Liaising with / organising cast information
  • Sourcing clothing needed for that production
  • Shadowing in the design / making process
  • Recording / organising incoming deliveries and assigning items to cast rails
  • Helping in fittings
  • Helping with alterations (if skilled in that area)
  • Working on returns
  • Learning about accounts

 

Whatever the stage we are at in the job at the time, they will support in / shadow. When working in the studio they will

  • Help organise costume in the archive
  • Help my team shoot / log / code clothing as part of an ongoing inventory project for online hires
  • Learn about the running of a rental studio
  • Learn about invoicing
  • Help with any alterations from damaged stock (if this is a skill they hold) run errands for materials / trims etc needed for these alterations

Skills and experience
Hardworking, high organisational skills, a problem solver, with a good creative eye, an eye for detail, and interested in working as part of a team.
