Download application form  Junior CopywriterThe Junior Copywriter Intern will work as part of Hatterʼs Digital Agencyʼs marketing team, gaining hands-on experience of writing for a range of real businesses and audiences across different industries.

The purpose of the internship is to provide practical experience of agency copywriting, helping the intern develop their writing, research and communication skills while learning how copy fits into wider marketing strategy.

Working alongside experienced members of the Hatterʼs team, the intern will be introduced to the full process behind creating effective marketing content, from understanding a client and their audience through to researching topics, developing ideas,drafting copy and responding to feedback.

Duties and responsibilities
Main duties will include: 

  • Supporting the creation of copy for social media, websites, blogs, email marketing and other digital channels 
  • Researching clients, industries, competitors and topics to support content development- Helping generate content ideas based on client objectives and target audiences
  • Drafting and editing copy with guidance and feedback from the wider team
  • Learning how to adapt tone of voice and writing style for different brands and audiences
  • Proofreading and checking content for accuracy, spelling and grammar
  • Taking part in team discussions, creative sessions and client work where appropriate
  • Learning how copywriting works alongside areas such as social media, SEO, design, paid advertising and marketing strategy

Hatterʼs is a small, collaborative digital marketing agency, so the intern will have the opportunity to see how different areas of marketing work together rather than being limited to one part of the process. They will receive support and feedback throughout the internship, with the aim of building both their practical skills and a portfolio of professional work.

Skills and experience
Person Specification

 
We are looking for someone who enjoys writing, is naturally curious and is interested in understanding how businesses communicate with different audiences. As this is an internship, previous professional copywriting or marketing experience is not required. We are more interested in strong written communication, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
 
Key skills and attributes include
  • Strong written English – able to communicate ideas clearly, with good spelling, grammar and attention to detail.
  • Adaptability – able to adjust writing style and tone for different audiences, subjects and types of content.
  • Research skills and curiosity – comfortable researching unfamiliar subjects and identifying the information needed to write confidently about them.
  • Creativity – able to generate ideas and approach topics from interesting or engaging angles.
  • Ability to respond to feedback – willing to develop work through constructive feedback and understand that editing is an important part of professional writing.
  • Organisation and reliability – able to manage tasks and deadlines and communicate with the team when support is needed.
  • Interest in marketing and communication – an interest in learning how copywriting contributes to wider marketing and business objectives.

No specific professional experience is required, although experience gained through university projects, student societies, volunteering, personal writing, blogs, social media or other creative work would be welcomed.

We would particularly welcome applications from students studying English, English Language, English Literature, Creative Writing, Journalism, Marketing, Advertising, Communications, Media or related subjects. However, we would also encourage applications from students in other disciplines who can demonstrate a strong interest inwriting and communication
