Download application form  The intern will join GoodShip and work directly with the team on the growth of AI Activator, our programme designed to help people develop the skills, understanding and bravery to engage with AI. The purpose of the internship is to support the next stage of AI Activatorʼs growth, balancing commercial opportunities with social impact. We want to identify organisations that could commission and deliver programmes with us, alongside corporate, philanthropic and funding partners who could enable us to provide fully or partially funded programmes for third-sector organisations and communities.

Duties and responsibilities
The main duties will include:

  • Researching potential customers, delivery partners, corporate partners, funders and philanthropic organisations.
  • Identifying relevant contacts and decision-makers within target organisations.
  • Using AI tools alongside traditional research methods to research markets and identify new opportunities.
  • Supporting outreach through email, LinkedIn and telephone.
  • Setting up initial 15-minute insight and introduction calls to understand organisations, their challenges and potential opportunities to work together.
  • Maintaining accurate records of contacts, conversations, opportunities and follow-ups within our CRM.
  • Helping us improve how we use our CRM and manage our business development pipeline.
  • Exploring how AI can support research and outreach while maintaining good practice around data quality, privacy andgovernance.
  • Sharing insights with the GoodShip* team to help shape future commercial and social-impact opportunities for AI Activator.

This is a practical role within a small, collaborative team. The intern will have the opportunity to contribute directly to a live andgrowing programme, with exposure to AI, innovation, business development, partnerships, entrepreneurship and social impact.

Skills and experience
We are not looking for a particular technical background or previous sales experience.

The three most important skills are:

  • Research and analytical skills – Able to find, assess and organise information, identify relevant organisations and contacts, and turn research into useful insights and opportunities.
  • Communication skills – Confident communicating clearly through email, LinkedIn and telephone, including speaking to people they have not met before.
  • Initiative and bravery – Willing to try new approaches, pick up the phone, ask questions and learn through doing rather than waiting to be given every answer.

Additional useful skills and interests include

  • An interest in AI and emerging technology. No technical AI experience is required.
  • An understanding of, or willingness to learn, how AI can be used effectively and responsibly for research and business development.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage contacts, follow-ups and information accurately.
  • An interest in business, entrepreneurship, innovation, partnerships or social impact.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a small team.
  • An awareness of data privacy and responsible data management would be useful, although training and guidance will be provided.

Degree subjects:

We are deliberately keeping the opportunity broad and would welcome applications from students across Business, Marketing, Communications, Psychology, Sociology, Politics, Economics, Law, Digital, Technology, Computer Science and related disciplines.

We are more interested in your mindset, communication skills, curiosity and willingness to get involved than your specific degree subject.
