Lets‑Talk2day CIC is a Liverpool-based community organisation promoting mental health and wellbeing through language, culturally responsive support and community connection. We work with people from diverse and multicultural communities, including refugees, people seeking asylum, migrants, newly settled residents and others who may experience language, cultural, digital, financial or confidence-related barriers when accessing services.
Our services include mental health and wellbeing support, peer support, community advocacy, language support, employability and digital-skills activities, physical activities, community lunches, health navigation, volunteering and community-based training. We deliver activities from accessible community venues across Liverpool and work closely with health services, public bodies and voluntary-sector partners.
Purpose of the internship:
The Community Engagement and Impact Intern will complete a defined 100-hour project helping Lets‑Talk2day strengthen the way we gather, analyse and communicate evidence about our community impact.
The intern will work alongside the Managing Director, Delivery Lead, staff, volunteers and Community Champions. They will help us understand participantsʼ experiences, identify barriers to accessing support, and demonstrate the difference our programmes make to peopleʼs confidence, wellbeing, social connection and ability to access services.
This is a developmental project created specifically for the internship. It does not replace an existing employee or cover anestablished staff vacancy
Duties and responsibilities
Main duties
The intern will:
- Complete a structured induction covering Lets‑Talk2dayʼs services, safeguarding, equality and diversity, confidentiality, UKGDPR, professional boundaries and culturally sensitive communication
- Become familiar with our community programmes, delivery venues, referral pathways and partnerships.
- Help review and organise existing anonymised attendance, participation, feedback and outcome information.
- Support the development of accessible feedback tools, including short questionnaires, discussion prompts and easy-to understand formats suitable for participants with different levels of English.
- Attend selected community sessions to observe delivery and, under supervision, gather feedback from participants, volunteers and Community Champions.
- Communicate respectfully with people from different cultural, linguistic and personal backgrounds.
- Analyse anonymised quantitative and qualitative information to identify themes, outcomes, barriers, learning and areas for improvement.
- Develop three to five short, anonymised case studies or participant stories, subject to informed consent and organisational approval.
- Help produce a concise Community Impact Report describing who we support, what we deliver, the outcomes achieved and recommendations for future development.
- Turn key findings into accessible content that may include infographics, presentation slides, website material or social-media content.
- Present the findings and recommendations to Lets‑Talk2dayʼs directors, staff and Community Champions at the end of the project.
- Maintain accurate project records and comply with confidentiality, safeguarding and data-protection requirements throughout the internship
- Attend any suitable training to enhance their time at Lets-talk2day
Expected outputs
By the end of the internship, the student will have contributed to:
- An accessible participant-feedback tool.
- A summary of anonymised participation and outcome information.
- Three to five anonymised community case studies.
- A short Community Impact Report.
- Accessible visual or digital content communicating key findings.
- A final presentation with practical recommendations.
Support and Supervision:
The intern will have a named supervisor and receive a structured induction, clear project plan, regular supervision meetings, constructive feedback and a mid-point and end-of-project review. They will have opportunities to shadow community activities, work with an experienced multidisciplinary team and learn about careers across the community, health, wellbeing and voluntary sectors.
The student will not be expected to provide counselling, regulated advice or unsupervised support to service users. Community engagement will be appropriately supervised, and all personal information used within project outputs will beanonymised
Skills and experience
This internship is suitable for a Level 5 or Level 6 undergraduate student who is interested in community engagement, mental health and wellbeing, equality, research, communications or social impact.
We welcome applicants with different backgrounds and experiences. Previous paid employment in this field is not required, as training, guidance and supervision will be provided.
Essential skills and qualities:
- Communication: The ability to communicate clearly, respectfully and sensitively with colleagues, volunteers and people from diverse communities. The student should be able to adapt written and verbal communication for different audiences.
- Research and analytical skills: The ability to gather, organise and summarise information, identify common themes and draw sensible conclusions. Basic confidence using Microsoft Word and Excel, or a willingness to learn, would be helpful.
- Cultural awareness and empathy: A respectful, non-judgemental approach and an interest in working with people from different cultural, linguistic and personal backgrounds.
- Organisation and time management: The ability to plan tasks, meet agreed deadlines, maintain accurate records and complete a defined project within 100 hours.
- Written communication: The ability to produce clear summaries, reports, case studies or presentation content with appropriate support and feedback.
- Confidentiality and professionalism: An understanding of the importance of handling sensitive information responsibly, maintaining professional boundaries and following safeguarding and data-protection procedures.
- Teamwork and initiative: The ability to work collaboratively, respond positively to feedback, ask questions when unsure and take appropriate ownership of agreed tasks.
Desirable skills or experience - The following would be helpful but are not essential:
- Experience of volunteering, community activity, peer support or working with diverse groups
- An interest in mental health, public health, social inclusion or health inequalities.
- Experience with surveys, interviews, qualitative research or basic data analysis.
- Confidence creating presentations, infographics or digital content using tools such as PowerPoint or Canva.
- Knowledge of social media or accessible communications.
- Additional language skills or lived/shared experience of diverse communities.
