The purpose of the role will be to deliver high-quality and timely support within the School. The scope of activity will include supporting the lead academic / tutor / supervisor / technical staff with the delivery of practical teaching activities /classes.

 

Start Date: 21/09/2026

End Date: 31/07/2027

Working Hours: To be confirmed by the Hiring Manager

Pay Rate: £ 15.78 per hour

Holiday Pay Rate: £1.90 per hour

Location: University Park Campus/ University of Nottingham

Dress Code: Smart Casual  

Duties and responsibilities

-Support and provide clear and accurate guidance to undergraduate students on technical procedures, techniques, safety, and data manipulation.

-Respond to queries raised by students relating to both practical skills and underlying theory.

-Communicate information/instructions effectively to others.

-Demonstrate the use of relevant practical equipment, instrumentation, and software packages and / or performing different techniques

-Monitor student progress, provide feedback, and facilitate support and confidence building, this may include assessing students’ experimental data.

-Responsibilities could include assisting with the marking of practical activities, reports associated with practical activities and/or lab books confirming students have acquired necessary skills.

-Promote equality and diversity in working practices and maintain positive working relationships.

-Maintain confidentiality of answers and any personal information learnt.

    -Ensure safe practices are followed at all times, intervening if you spot something                dangerous, or escalating to academic/technical staff.

Skills and experience

-Attend all scheduled training sessions and complete required training.

-Be prepared for each assignment by reading methods/schedules and talking to relevant staff in advance.

-Read & understand assigned preparation materials, for example experimental information, risk & COSHH assessments (where applicable) for the scheduled practical.

    -Be familiar with the laboratory, field equipment, instrumentation, and techniques
