JGP Consultancy Services Limited is a Wigan-based business consultancy and the UK's number one tender finder consultancy for SMEs. We help organisations across the education, skills, IT, media and third sectors to grow by identifying, bidding for and winning contracts and tenders. Our services span strategic advice, funding and opportunity finding, bid writing and management, bid review, and competitor and market analysis.

Our mission is simple: to give our clients back the time to run their business, while we focus on finding and winning the opportunities that help them grow. As a small, ambitious consultancy, every member of our team has a direct impact on our success — and this internship is no exception. We are looking for an intern who can help us re-energise our sales pipeline, at a time when the volume of leads coming into the business has fallen and needs a renewed push. This particular internship is focused on sales and lead generation. JGP is looking for support to increase the number of leads coming into the business and to improve how effectively those leads are converted into paying clients.

Purpose of the Role.

We need support generating new business leads and improving how we convert the leads we already have. You'll work closely with our sales team on a mix of cold outreach and following up warm enquiries from prospective clients who've already shown interest in our services. We're also keen to hear your ideas — whatever you're learning at university about sales, marketing ordigital outreach, we want you to bring that thinking into the business.

Duties and responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:

Sales calls and outreach

  • Make outbound calls to prospective client organisations across our target sectors
  • Follow up warm leads — enquiries from people who have already requested information about our services
  • Confidently and professionally represent JGP Consultancy Services in every conversation
  • Book qualified appointments and discovery calls for the wider sales team

Sales emails and lead nurturing

  • Draft and send professional follow-up emails to warm and cold prospects
  • Help build simple email sequences to nurture leads that aren't yet ready to buy
  • Keep accurate, up-to-date records of all activity and outcomes in our CRM/lead tracking system

Lead generation

  • Research and identify new prospective clients and target organisations
  • Support the team in testing new ways to generate leads, e.g. LinkedIn outreach, email campaigns or referral approaches
  • Bring in fresh thinking from your studies — we're especially keen to explore any techniques, platforms or approaches you're learning about that could help us generate more, better-quality leads
  • Assist with light-touch market and competitor research to help sharpen our approach

Reporting and improvement

  • Track and report on call/email activity, response rates and conversions
  • Feedback what's working (and what isn't) to help us continuously improve our sales process

Other duties

As a small consultancy, we all pitch in where needed. From time to time you may also be asked to support the wider team with related tasks, such as marketing activity (e.g. social media or email content) and bid writing support. These will be manageable alongside your core sales duties and will be a great opportunity to broaden your experience of the business. What You'll Gain

  • Real, hands-on experience of B2B sales — cold calling, warm lead follow-up and pipeline management
  • Direct exposure to how a consultancy generates and converts new business
  • The chance to see your own ideas tested and put into practice
  • Mentoring and support from an experienced, close-knit consultancy team
  • A genuine, evidenced addition to your CV and a reference for future roles

Skills and experience
We're not expecting you to arrive as a finished salesperson — full training and ongoing support will be provided. What matters most is attitude, communication and a genuine interest in sales and business growth.

Essential:

Currently enrolled at LJMU at Level 5 or Level 6 (second or third year)
Registered with LJMU's Unitemps branch, with a completed right-to-work check

Confident, clear verbal communicator, comfortable speaking with new people on the phone
Strong written English for professional emails and correspondence
Good organisational skills and the ability to manage time and priorities independently
Comfortable using everyday IT tools (email, Word, Excel/spreadsheets)

Positive, resilient attitude — comfortable making cold calls and handling occasional rejection
Self-motivated with a proactive, can-do approach to finding solutions
Curious and keen to bring fresh ideas and new thinking to the team
Professional manner and a strong sense of ownership over tasks
Team player who is also happy working independently

Able to commit to the agreed working pattern across the internshi
Happy to work remotely

Desirable:

Studying a business, marketing, sales, or related degree

Previous experience in a customer-facing, telesales, retail, or customer service role
Experience using email or phone to communicate with customers or clients

Awareness of sales or marketing techniques from coursework (e.g. AIDA, sales funnels, lead nurturing)
Familiarity with LinkedIn or other social platforms for professional outreach
Experience with, or willingness to quickly learn, a CRM or lead-tracking system
