Role
The School of Engineering are looking for a temporary student assistant to support the development of SolidWorks learning materials for first-year engineering students. 

 
£13.18 per hour.
£1.59 per hour holiday pay.
Up to 30 hours work in total.
 
Closing date for applications: Wednesday 16 September 2026. We reserve the right to close the advert early if a suitable candidate is found.

Duties and responsibilities

Under the guidance of the module lecturer, the successful applicant will be responsible for recording and editing 15 short instructional videos to guide first-year students in using SolidWorks for: 

  • 3D modelling;  

  • Assembly modelling; and  

  • Creating 2D engineering drawings.  

The videos will be used as learning resources to support students in developing their basic SolidWorks skills. 

Skills and experience

Essential Requirements 

Applicants should: 

  • Current undergraduate or postgraduate student; 

  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering drawing; 

  • Have good practical knowledge and experience of SolidWorks;  

  • Be able to create 3D models, assemblies and 2D engineering drawings using SolidWorks;  

  • Have experience or demonstrated ability in video recording and editing;  

  • Be able to explain technical procedures clearly and systematically;  

  • Be reliable and able to complete the work within the agreed timescale.

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted to submit a short video demonstrating their use of SolidWorks to create a 3D model. The video will be used to assess the applicant's SolidWorks skills and their ability to produce suitable instructional material.
 
Selection will be based primarily on the quality of the submitted SolidWorks video, and the position will be offered to the most suitable applicant.
