Role
The intern will support our client in evaluating how the business captures, manages and uses operational data to inform decision-making. The role will review current data collection practices, assess existing KPIs, identify gaps where critical data is missing or underused, and help define meaningful performance metrics aligned to business goals. The intern will also explore digital tools for real-time data capture and visualisation, supporting the development of user-friendly dashboards that provide accessible, actionable insights.
Duties and responsibilities
- Review current shop-floor data capture processes and identify what operational, maintenance, health and safety, and quality data is currently being collected.
- Support Phase 1 activity by helping to set up digital forms for reporting H&S, maintenance and quality issues on the shop floor.
- Analyse existing KPIs to assess their relevance, effectiveness and alignment with business objectives.
- Identify gaps where critical data is missing, duplicated or underutilised, and recommend improvements to data capture and reporting processes.
- Work with relevant teams to define meaningful metrics that support operational performance, quality management and continuous improvement.
- Explore appropriate digital tools for real-time data collection, dashboarding and visualisation.
- Begin developing simple, user-friendly dashboards to improve access to actionable business intelligence.
- Support Phase 2 activity by contributing to the digitisation of the Quality Management System.
- Contribute to Phase 3 activity by reviewing business roles and processes to identify opportunities for digitisation, automation and appropriate use of AI to improve efficiency.
Skills and experience
ESSENTIAL:
Interest in data, business intelligence, digital transformation or process improvement; confident working with spreadsheets and structured information; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; good attention to detail; ability to communicate clearly with colleagues across different business areas; willingness to learn new digital tools and understand manufacturing or engineering processes.
DESIRABLE:
Experience or awareness of dashboarding tools such as Power BI, Excel dashboards or similar platforms; understanding of KPIs, quality management systems, maintenance reporting or health and safety reporting; interest in automation, AI and digital manufacturing technologies.
