Description

Role

Our Client is seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Graduate Applications Developer to support the ongoing development, maintenance and enhancement of our business systems, including our proprietary GMP Go platform.

Working alongside our existing software development partners and internal stakeholders, the successful candidate will assist in developing new functionality, improving existing systems, supporting users and contributing to our wider digital transformation initiatives.

This is an ideal opportunity for a Computer Science graduate or an individual at an early stage of their software development career looking to gain hands-on experience in a commercially focused environment.

Duties and responsibilities

Software Development.

  • Support the ongoing development of the GMP Go platform.
  • Assist with designing, developing and testing new software functionality.
  • Identify and resolve software defects and user-reported issues.
  • Develop enhancements to internal business applications and reporting systems.
  • Support integration projects between software platforms and third-party systems.
  • Assist with database management and data quality improvement initiatives.

Business Systems Support

  • Provide prompt responses to internal system and application queries.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot software-related issues.
  • Support users with software functionality and system improvements.
  • Assist with maintaining system documentation and user guides.

Testing and Quality Assurance

  • Perform system testing before software releases.
  • Document testing results and identify areas for improvement.
  • Assist with maintaining development and testing procedures.

Digital Transformation Projects

  • Participate in technology projects aimed at improving efficiency and automation.
  • Support implementation of new software solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve business processes through technology.

Knowledge Management

  • Develop an understanding of GMP Go and associated systems.
  • Build and maintain technical documentation.
  • Work closely with external software contractors to gain system knowledge and ensure continuity of support.

Skills and experience

Essential
 
  • Degree, HND, apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Software Development, IT or a related discipline.
  • Understanding of software development principles.
  • Knowledge of at least one programming language.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Enthusiasm for learning new technologies.

Desirable

  • PHP development experience.
  • Laravel framework experience.
  • HTML, CSS and JavaScript knowledge.
  • SQL and relational database knowledge.
  • Experience of API integrations.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365.
  • Understanding of cloud-hosted applications.
  • Experience of Git source control.

Location
Stafford - Initially office-based during induction and training. Hybrid working may be offered following successful completion of probation (13 weeks) and once sufficient familiarity with GMP systems has been established.
