Student Futures Ambassadors
Ringfenced to current LJMU students only
Role
Student Futures is LJMU’s Careers, Employability & Start-up Service. We provide a diverse range of services, experiences, opportunities and resources directly to students & graduates, designed to transform their skills & mindset, career agility and future success.
We are seeking to appoint a pool of talented and enthusiastic students from across a range of LJMU schools/programmes to act as ambassadors for student employability and the Student Futures department, its mission and services.
Duties and responsibilities
- Deliver introductions to Student Futures services in lectures and extracurricular events.
- Provide pop-up promotional appearances in a range of campus buildings and spaces.
- Represent Student Futures at events such as open days, JMSU events, Freshers Fair and graduation.
- Work alongside Student Futures’ Digital Services & Engagement team to create and distribute social media content and blogs.
- Advise on campus and off-campus spaces where marketing material is most likely to attract students' interest and support distribution of marketing material in these spaces.
- Provide advice to Student Futures, LJMU Schools and Programmes and external partners through focus groups. This will include advising on the most effective ways to promote Student Futures’ services & events and Unitemps’ opportunities to students, and supporting the promotion of these - for example, via liaison with JMSU societies, or with student representatives.
- Provide cover for welcome desks in Careers Zones as required.
- Act as champions for Student Futures’ careers & employability software platforms, supporting peers to make best of these.
- Act as ushers for Recruitment Fairs – this may include providing personalised support for students with specific needs.
- Assist with networking events.
Skills and experience
Essential Factors
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Able to demonstrate a high level of professionalism in representing a service.
- A demonstrable understanding of issues related to the student experience, including the needs of a diverse student population.
- Highly organised. An ability to multi-task whilst remaining focussed. Prioritise and manage time effectively. Punctual and reliable.
- Able to work confidently and effectively with little supervision.
Desirable Factors:
- Recent experience of working with students in a professional capacity.
