Description
Role
To provide technical support to post-doctoral research staff; assisting with field and lab work for environmental DNA monitoring of two mammals of conservation priority.
Duties and responsibilities
1. Plan and undertake experiments as scheduled in project proposal.
2. Carry out aquatic eDNA field sampling alongside post-doctoral research staff.
3. Undertake techniques such as DNA extraction, qPCR or other molecular analysis.
4. Manage the project on a day-to-day basis including purchasing consumables, monitoring project progress and advising the PI of any issues likely to lead to a delay in the project.
5. Attend weekly research group meetings, sharing and contributing ideas to the wider lab team.
6. Draft results of analysis for input into scientific publications.

Skills and experience
Essential Criterion
E1 - Vocational Qualification at NVQ Level 4, or HNC/HND or education to ‘A’ level standard or equivalent in Biology and/or a relevant science subject, or relevant experience at a high level in a similar work environment.
E2 - Experience in molecular biological techniques including DNA extraction and PCR.
E3 - Experience planning and undertaking experiments, including assessing conditions needed and using appropriate techniques.
E4 - Be able to take an active role in laboratory and project meetings, including giving presentations on your own work and communication progress or problems to PI.
Desirable Criterion
D1 – A degree or professional/recognised qualification in related subject area (Biological Sciences).
D2 – Experience working with a range of environmental samples such as water and soil.
D3 – Experience designing and carrying out molecular assays such as qPCR or CRISPR.
D4 – A full UK driving licence
