Role

To assist with a project aiming to develop a new measure of creativity suitable for use with 1- year-old children. The role of the research assistant will be to support with the recruitment and be primarily responsible for data from 17 1-year-old children. 

Data collection will take place at the University of Staffordshire, at local nurseries and Family Hubs. Therefore, some travel will be involved. 

Data collection will involve setting up video cameras and preparing the space for data collection, administering the Unusual Box task (a play-based measure of creativity) to the young child. Each child will take part in two data collection sessions, approximately a week apart. If time allows there may also be some involvement in coding the collected data, this is done using specialist observational software). 

The role requires some flexibility as the hours will not be fixed each week.

Duties and responsibilities

  • To recruit and collect data from 17 1-year-old children
  • To ensure that this data is collected in line with the approved ethical procedure and that the risk assessment is followed.

 

Skills and experience

  • Education to degree level, ideally in psychology, education or a closely related area.
  • Must be on the DBS update service as you will be working with children.
  • Ability to travel independently
  • Confidence communicating with adults and young children
  • Must have some experience of interacting with young children
  • Ability to problem solve and to follow experimental procedures – this requires some understanding of research methods.
