Role

Our client is a well established accountancy firm based in Newcastle under Lyme. They are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Excel Data Analyst to support the development of management reporting tools within our practice.
 
Our client operates using an integrated practice management system that stores client information, documents, workflow data and staff timesheets. The system contains a wealth of valuable business information, and we are looking for someone to help transform this data into meaningful reports that support decision-making across the organisation.
 
The successful candidate will work on improving and expanding existing Excel-based reporting templates, creating automated and easy-to-use reports that can be generated regularly with minimal manual intervention.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Analyse data exported from our practice management software.
  • Develop and improve Excel-based reporting templates.
  • Create and maintain Pivot Tables, dashboards and summary reports.
  • Build formula-driven reports using functions such as VLOOKUP, IF statements and other advanced Excel features.
  • Produce reports covering: - Financial performance/Workflow management & Staff utilisation and time management reporting.
  • Validate and test report outputs to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Work closely with team members to understand reporting requirements and business processes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting efficiency and reduce manual processes.
  • Document report structures and processes to support future use.

Skills and experience
Essential Skills & Experience 

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including: Pivot Tables/VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP/IF statements/Conditional Formatting/Data Validation/Formula-based analysis
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Comfortable working with large datasets and structuring information effectively.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate work.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate with colleagues.
  • Ability to learn new software systems quickly.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience creating dashboards or management reports.
  • Knowledge of Power Query, Power Pivot or business reporting tools.
  • Experience using AI tools such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot or Claude to improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Previous experience in a business, finance, administration or data-focused role.
