Description
Role
To represent and promote the University of Leicester Medical School and higher education to prospective students, parents and teachers at on- and off-campus events. Student Ambassadors share their experience of studying Medicine at Leicester, help create a welcoming and inclusive environment, and support activities that raise aspirations and encourage engagement with higher education.
Please note, you must be currently studying Medicine at the University of Leicester to apply for this role.
Duties and responsibilities
- Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for visitors to the University.
- Assist University staff with the delivery of events, including setting up and clearing away, registration and information stands, and providing general advice and information to visitors.
- Talk to prospective students, parents and other visitors about the University of Leicester, its facilities and the Medicine course, drawing on personal experience as a current student.
- Lead or support campus and Medical School tours, including the dissecting room where available.
- Run or support interactive demonstrations, which may include ECG, spirometry, blood pressure, Technology Enhanced Learning, anatomy displays, age suits, examination of the ear and resuscitation activities.
- Participate in student panels and question-and-answer sessions
- .Support outreach and widening participation events on and off campus, including facilitating workshops and encouraging students to engage with activities
- .Act as a positive role model, helping to raise aspirations and encourage young people to consider higher education.
- Support the development of multimedia and marketing resources for the Medicine course.
- Undertake occasional data entry or office administration where required
Skills and experience
Essential
- Currently studying for an undergraduate degree in Medicine at the University of Leicester.*
- Friendly and approachable.
- Excellent customer service skills, or an understanding of what excellent customer service is.*
- Ability to communicate with people of all ages and backgrounds.*
- Ability to work effectively in a team.*Organised and able to multitask
- .Excellent time management skills; reliable and punctual.
- Ability to engage with young people.*
- Ability to work independently and use initiative where appropriate.
- Ability to showcase the Medical School's commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Desirable
- Good presentation skills
- Experience in a customer-facing role.
- Experience of working with young people.
