Role
Sport and Active Campus is looking for a creative and enthusiastic student to support the design and production of promotional materials across print, ecomms and social media.
Working closely with the Sport and Active Campus team, the main purpose of the role is to create engaging, professional and visually consistent promotional content that supports campaigns, events, activities, clubs, programmes and wider communications across the department.
The role will involve working from creative briefs and adapting existing assets, as well as developing new designs. All work will need to follow the Middlesex University Brand Toolkit and maintain a consistent visual identity across different platforms and formats.
This is an ideal opportunity for a student looking to gain practical experience in graphic design, marketing and communications within a university environment.
Duties and responsibilities
- Design promotional materials for Sport and Active Campus across print, web and social media.
- Create digital and print-ready artwork for campaigns, events, activities, clubs and programmes.
- Produce engaging social media graphics and promotional assets in a range of formats and dimensions.
- Design posters, flyers, digital screens, banners, social media posts and other promotional materials.
- Adapt and resize existing creative assets for different platforms and communication channels.
- Work with the Sport and Active Campus team to interpret creative briefs and develop appropriate visual solutions.
- Apply the Middlesex University Brand Toolkit to ensure all materials are consistent with university brand guidelines.
- Use Adobe Creative Cloud software, particularly Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and other relevant Creative Suite applications.
- Prepare artwork appropriately for both digital and print production.
- Make amendments to designs in response to feedback and ensure final artwork meets the requirements of the brief.
- Organise and manage design files and creative assets effectively.
- Work to agreed deadlines and manage multiple design requests where required.
- Communicate proactively with members of the Sport and Active Campus team throughout the design process.
- Contribute creative ideas and suggestions to support and improve Sport and Active Campus promotional activity.
- Support the creation of visually engaging content that encourages students to participate in sport, physical activity, wellbeing initiatives, events and campus activities.
Skills and experience
- Studying a relevant creative subject such as Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Digital Media, Marketing or a related discipline.
- Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.
- Good understanding of graphic design principles, including typography, layout, composition and visual hierarchy.
- Ability to create engaging designs for different audiences and communication platforms.
- Understanding of preparing artwork for both print and digital use.
- Strong attention to detail and a good eye for visual consistency.
- Ability to follow brand guidelines and apply them accurately across different designs.
- Creative, enthusiastic and willing to contribute new ideas.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple pieces of work.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to understand a brief and translate requirements into effective visual content.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with limited supervision.
- Comfortable receiving feedback and making revisions to creative work.
- Reliable and able to meet agreed deadlines.
- Motivated, proactive and able to work in a flexible environment.
- An interest in sport, physical activity, student engagement or university life would be desirable, but is not essential.
- A portfolio or examples of previous design work would be desirable.

Mandatory Training:
The successful candidate may be required to complete an initial induction and briefing session covering Sport and Active Campus, relevant university processes and the Middlesex University Brand Toolkit.
