The Role:
We are looking to recruit energetic, reliable and enthusiastic candidate to work as a Retail Assistant on the below dates and run, manage and coordinate the DSU Merchandise Pop Up Shop (De Montfort Students Union).
In this exciting role you will be working for the Retail Manager to provide exceptional customer service and point of sale service to customers playing a key part in the success of the Pop Up Shop at DSU.
We are looking for a DMU Student (currently enrolled on a course) who is reliable, hard working and able to commit to the days, hours below. The dates required to work are:
- Wednesday 7th October 2026 09:00am - 17:00pm
- Wednesday 21st October 2026 09:00am - 17:00pm
- Wednesday 4th November 2026 09:00am - 17:00pm
- Wednesday 18th November 2026 09:00am - 17:00pm
- Wednesday 2nd December 2026 09:00am - 17:00pm
- Wednesday 20th January 2027 09:00am - 17:00pm

THE DSU:
- De Montfort Students' Union (DSU) is an independent, student-run and student-led organisation. They are here to represent your academic interests, involve and inspire students to make the most of their time at De Montfort University (DMU).

Duties and responsibilities
- Supporting the DSU Pop Up Shop operations ensuring the smooth running of our service.
- Serving customers in a polite and friendly manner interacting and listening to their needs and give helpful solutions to their queries ensuring excellent customer service is provided at all times.
- Leading by example and providing efficient customer service and resolving concerns promptly and professionally.
- Managing financial transactions accurately and ensuring that cash is handled safely and securely.
- Ensure the security of cash and the premises at the beginning and end of each day.
- Ensuring commercial awareness of key selling lines and identifying potential sales opportunities.
- Provide expert help with products supplied by keeping up to date with product knowledge.
- Producing a good standard of work in line with customers’ expectations.
- To maintain stock availability, presentation and cleanliness of Pop Up Shop Area.
- Using own initiative with different tasks, e.g., stock checks, cleaning, replenishment.
- Adhere to health, safety and quality regulations
Skills and experience
- Experience of working in retail, hospitality, in particular working in a shop type environment (desirable)
- Experience of supervisory role and managing others (desirable)
- Flexible and adaptable in work attitude with approachable outlook
- Excellent customer service and care
- To be able to offer great hospitality to all visitors
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Able to multi task and deal with competing and conflicting demands
- Able to work flexibly independent and on your own
- Able to move, lift and carry stock.
- Able to work a variety of shifts, occasional weekend working.
- Able to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders
- Confident with a I can do attitude and able take on responsibility and use initiative.
- A outgoing individual is essential
- Replenishing stock and taking payments from customers
