Role
We are seeking a Research Assistant (FA5) to support an innovative project developing a high-fidelity 3D-printed Dupuytren’s contracture training simulator for hand surgeons. Working with a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, engineers and imaging specialists, the postholder will contribute to the coordination and delivery of research activities including literature reviews, specimen sourcing, imaging studies, data processing, prototype development and user evaluation. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in translational medical research at the interface of healthcare, engineering and simulation-based education.

Duties and responsibilities

• Support with literature reviews and background research to inform project development.

• Assist with the preparation and submission of research ethics and governance documentation.

• Coordinate meetings and communications with project collaborators and external stakeholders.

• Support the sourcing, handling and transportation of cadaveric specimens in accordance with relevant regulations and procedures.

• Assist with imaging activities, including preparation of specimens and management of imaging datasets.

• Support image processing, data organisation and documentation of research outputs.

• Assist with the development, testing and refinement of 3D-printed simulator prototypes.

• Contribute to the organisation and delivery of stakeholder engagement activities, surveys and simulator testing workshops.

• Collect, record and manage research data accurately and securely.

• Assist with preparation of reports, presentations and dissemination materials.

• Support the preparation of manuscripts, conference abstracts and other research outputs.

• Maintain accurate project records and ensure compliance with relevant health and safety, ethical and data governance requirements.

• Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade of the post.

Skills and experience

Essential

• Undergraduate degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant discipline such as biomedical sciences, healthcare sciences, engineering, anatomy, medical sciences, psychology, or a related subject.

• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

• Experience of collecting, managing or analysing data within a research, clinical or academic setting.

• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.

• Ability to maintain accurate records and follow established procedures.

Desirable

• Experience supporting academic or healthcare research projects.

• Familiarity with research ethics processes and governance requirements.

• Experience working with medical imaging data or image analysis software.

• Experience of 3D modelling, CAD software or additive manufacturing/3D printing.

• Experience organising surveys, workshops or participant engagement activities.

• Experience preparing reports, presentations or academic publications.

• Interest in medical simulation, surgical education or healthcare innovation.

Location
Hybrid, some local travel between UHCW and University of Warwick may be required
