Role
The AI & Robotics Test Engineer Assistant will support the deployment, testing, and validation of computer vision and robotic systems for agricultural applications in a real field environment. The project focuses on developing and deploying object detection AI models capable of identifying common objects in farming environments, enabling robotic platforms to understand their surroundings for perception, navigation, operational awareness, and safety.
The role will require on-site testing of robotic platforms at field trial locations. Candidates must be able to travel independently to testing sites, either using their own vehicle or a hire car provided by the project.Duties and responsibilities
The successful candidate will mainly assist with field trials, robotic system testing, performance validation, and AI model evaluation, as well as data collection, depending on the testing results. The role involves working closely with researchers and engineers to assess the reliability of computer vision algorithms and robotic systems under real-world agricultural conditions.
Skills and experience
Essential
- Undergraduate degree (or currently studying) in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Engineering, Data Science, or a related discipline.
- Basic understanding of machine learning, deep learning, and computer vision concepts.
- Experience using Linux-based systems.
- Familiarity with AI model testing and evaluation methodologies.
- Understanding of robotic systems, sensors, or autonomous platforms.
- Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Full driving license
Desirable
- Experience with object detection models such as YOLO, Faster R-CNN, or similar architectures.
- Experience working with cameras, RGB-D sensors, LiDAR, or other perception systems.
- Knowledge of agricultural robotics, autonomous vehicles, or precision agriculture technologies.
