Role
This is a 12-week paid internship opportunity as part of the WMG Internship Programme.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated electronics engineer to join a forward-thinking manufacturing business working on a project involving the creation of a vision system from PCB level to working prototype.
You will work alongside the electronics and software engineering team within the R&D department to improve current sensor capabilities and portfolio.
The project will deliver real business impact, providing you with the opportunity to develop your technical knowledge while gaining valuable hands-on experience within a well-established manufacturing business.
This internship is designed to provide meaningful responsibility from day one, with the opportunity to present recommendations directly to senior stakeholders and contribute to strategic improvement initiatives.
Successful interns may also be considered for future permanent opportunities within the business.

Duties and responsibilities
Example Project Activities
Depending on business priorities, projects may include:
- Creating a vision system
-The system should be designed at a PCB level
-We are open to how the system would interface with its master controller
- Benchmarking different vision hardware
-We are open to different techniques using all kinds of vision – it’s not limited to visible light camera sensors
-This should include a small exploration phase where our assumptions are challenged
- Ensuring production-grade standard and reliability of the vision system
- This should be measured using a repeatable set of tests
- We’d like to produce a datasheet that’s of similar quality to already existing camera systems
- Monitoring project performance against agreed KPIs.
- Presenting findings and recommendations to management.

Who We're Looking For
We're looking for graduates who are naturally curious, proactive and enthusiastic about creating systems from scratch
You should enjoy designing electronics, understanding how things integrate together and identifying opportunities to make processes more efficient.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable communicating with people across the business and confident taking ownership of their own tasks.
Skills and experience
Essential
- Degree (or predicted degree) in: electronics engineering, embedded systems engineering, optoelectronics, photonics engineering, software engineering, general engineering or related discipline.
- Must have experience working electronics and pcb design and manufacture. This extends to using electronics CAD software.
- Must have experience working with common document editing tools e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
- Should have experience working in Linux or embedded system development.
- Should have experience testing, benchmarking and documenting electronics designs
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Good organisational skills.
- A proactive and positive approach to learning.
Desirable Skills
- Experience or knowledge of any of the following would be advantageous:
- Very good if you have experience working with version control like git and GitHub.
- Very good if you have good working experience with computer vision techniques and hardware control
- Very good if you have experience with embedded system development and frameworks e.g. Platform IO
- Good if you worked on database design and usage
- Good if you worked with computer networks
