Role
This is a 12-week paid internship opportunity as part of the WMG Internship Programme.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated data analyst/software engineer to join a forward-thinking manufacturing business working on a specific data project encapsulating data analysis manufacturing and machine process performance.
You will work alongside the data and software engineering team within the R&D department to analyse underlying trends, test hypotheses and gain data-driven insights.
The project will deliver real business impact, providing you with the opportunity to develop your technical knowledge while gaining valuable hands-on experience within a well-established manufacturing business.
This internship is designed to provide meaningful responsibility from day one, with the opportunity to present recommendations directly to senior stakeholders and contribute to strategic improvement initiatives.
Successful interns may also be considered for future permanent opportunities within the business.

Duties and responsibilities
Example Project Activities
Depending on business priorities, projects may include:
- Creating overview analysis of various datasets
- Determining connections between parameters to investigate
- Making statistical analyses of various datasets
- Determining likely volume requirements to characterise behaviour using statistically significant parameters.
- Generating a simple prediction model for a dataset
-Good basis for improvements rather than being greatly accurate
-Multiple approaches should be considered e.g. categorisation, regression, CNNs etc.
- Monitoring project performance against agreed KPIs.
- Presenting findings and recommendations to management.

Who We're Looking For
We're looking for graduates who are naturally curious, proactive and enthusiastic about solving engineering problems.
You should enjoy analysing data, understanding how things work and identifying opportunities to make processes more efficient.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable communicating with people across the business and confident taking ownership of their own tasks.
Skills and experience
Essential
- Degree (or predicted degree) in: Software engineering, data analysis, computer science, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, general engineering or related discipline
- Experience with data analysis and visualisation packages - no preference of packages/languages/frameworks.
-Data visualisation e.g. Power BI, Grafana, Tableau.
-Data interrogation e.g. DataGrip, DataSpell, R, Python.
- Must have experience with database traversal techniques (SQL). Best if proven working knowledge with PostgreSQL.
- Must have experience working with common document editing tools e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Good organisational skills.
- A proactive and positive approach to learning.
Desirable
Experience or knowledge of any of the following would be advantageous:
- Database design and architecture
- Data-driven decision making or machine learning
- Version control such as git and GitHub
- Large cloud computing and storage providers
- We use Azure – Oracle and AWS are acceptable
- Computer networking
- Docker, podman or similar
- Working knowledge of Linux and Windows
- Web backends and their connections with databases
