Description
Role
This role is based within a dedicated core support team of Technical and Administrative staff and provides day-to-day support in the operation of a busy research institution.
Start Date: 24/08/2026
End Date: 13/11/2026
Working Hours: To be arranged by hiring manager - 9 hours per week
Pay Rate: £13.45 per hour
Holiday Pay Rate: £1.62 per hour
Location: The Biodiscovery Institute
Dress Code: Smart Casual
Duties and responsibilities
- Preparing and sterilising laboratory reagents and media
- Washing and sterilizing of glassware
- Collection and disposal of biological waste using an autoclave
- Safety checks on equipment
- Collection and delivery of chemicals and waste
- Dealing with deliveries of consumables, stock checking and restocking consumables
- May also include working in 'goods in' and will involve taking and recording deliveries.
Skills and experience
Candidates should have GCSEs at Grade C English, mathematics, and a science subject or equivalent or considerable work experience in a relevant role.

- Ability to work to tight deadlines, both prescribed and self-imposed
- Ability to prioritise workloads
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships at all levels
- Self-motivated
- Good attention to detail
- Ability to work without close supervision and to work within a team environment
- Ability to adopt a methodical approach to work in order to achieve work deadlines
- Ability to lift and move objects as this role will involve storing and moving consumables and equipment, no heavier than 15kg
