Role

Minimum of a level 2 Fitness Instructor or equivalent qualification required

Overall Purpose:
 
To support the full time Fitness Instructors and club management in the provision of a friendly and effective service for all University community and external users. The postholder will be required to work as part of a team to provide a high quality leisure experience for all users.

Duties and responsibilities
Principal Duties:

  • Providing group and 1 to 1 induction’s for new members, under the direction of the Sports Operations Manager.
  • Provide an attentive service to all users of the fitness centre, encouraging regular use of the facility and retention of membership, in line with business objectives.
  • To assist the full-time Fitness Instructors work with other members of the fitness team to deliver promotions/events/competitions, as required.
  • To undertake general cleaning duties within the club as may be required and to report any faults, breakage’s, or damage to a duty manager.
  • To undertake receptionist duties, as required, processing memberships, taking bookings, and processing payments in line with Payment Card Industry standards and recommended guidelines.
  • To maintain a working knowledge of current health and safety standards and ensure working practices and procedures conform to current legislation.

Skills and experience
Education/Qualifications:

 
Essential:
  • Level 2 YMCA/ACSM Fitness Instructor or equivalent.
Desirable:
  • Current First Aid Certificate.
  • Other fitness/coaching qualifications.
  • Personal Training qualification.
  • Customer Service training
Experience:
 
Desirable:
  • Recent work within a Gym/Leisure environment or equivalent.Experience of working in a customer facing role.
Knowledge/Skills:
 
Essential:
  • Knowledge of how to plan a variety of training programmes.
  • Knowledge of how to undertake routine cleaning tasks to a high standard.
  • Sound knowledge of up to date issues in health, fitness and sport.
  • Excellent customer care and interpersonal skills.
Personal Qualities:
 
Essential:
  • Good communication skills, especially a friendly and outgoing manner.
  • Must be highly motivated and able to work well as part of a team.
