Description

Role

The Equine Student Support roles are fixed-term casual positions established to provide essential daily horse care during periods when Year 1 Animal Duties are not in place. The requirement for these roles has arisen due to a significant increase in equine practical teaching associated with a dual student cohort, together with the expansion of the School's teaching herd to meet curriculum demands. Working alongside the technical team, student assistants will undertake routine horse husbandry and welfare duties, including stable management, turnout, paddock maintenance, grooming, and twice-daily health and welfare checks. To provide consistent seven-day-a-week cover, we are seeking to recruit a pool of approximately 15–20 students who will work on a rotating basis over a 16-week period. The additional support provided by these students will ensure that the highest standards of animal welfare are maintained while enabling the technical team to focus on specialist responsibilities, including practical teaching support, assessment preparation, examination activities, and wider operational duties. These roles represent a cost-effective and flexible solution to meeting increased operational demands. They will safeguard curriculum delivery, enhance the student learning experience, maintain compliance with animal welfare and health and safety requirements, and alleviate pressure on the technical team without the need to create additional permanent staffing posts. The roles also provide students with valuable practical experience in equine husbandry, helping to develop their skills and improve their employability alongside their academic studies.
