Role
The Student Green Office (SGO) sits within the University's Academy for Sustainable Futures and is a student-led initiative in its 14th year. The SGO's aim is to engage students with sustainability, which may include environmental action, climate change and education, wellbeing and accessibility, social justice and equity, responsible activism, ethical consumption, biodiversity, food and principles of fair trade, carbon footprinting, engagement with the local community and more.
Duties and responsibilities
SGO Project Officers plan and run events and activities for current students including introductory sessions for climate education opportunities. They support University open days and offer-holder events to showcase sustainability at CCCU to prospective students and write for our student and staff-facing blog to represent a student voice on climate and sustainability issues that matter to them.
Skills and experience
Successful applicants will demonstrate both in their application covering letter and at interview an informed interest in one or more areas of sustainability (examples might include but are not limited to: climate action, climate change, wellbeing and accessibility, social justice and equity, responsible activism, ethical consumption, biodiversity, sustainable food and fair trade), and will have considered and be able to articulate how their skills and experiences thus far will help them to engage students with climate and sustainability issues. Previous experience in planning or running events, in communicating ideas in writing, or in delivering training or education is very welcome but not essential.
