Role
We are seeking a proactive and creative Communications and Events Officer to work with two research centres at Warwick Business School: The Enterprise Research Centre (ERC) and the Gillmore Centre for Financial Technology. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the design and delivery of social media content and online/in-person events across both centres, raising the profile of research activities, and ensuring high-quality engagement with academic, policy, and industry stakeholders.
Duties and responsibilities
The Communications and Events Officer provides operational support for communications, social media, and events activity across two WBS research centres. The role focuses on delivering high-quality research content, monitoring and managing social media channels (LinkedIn), and coordinating events, helping to raise the profile of the centres and support research dissemination and engagement. This is a hands-on role suited to someone with good digital and in-person communication skills, as well as research and policy awareness.
Social media communications
- Support the implementation of communications plans aligned with the centre’s objectives;
- Create and share engaging social media content raising the profile of the Centres’ research outputs, activities and events in line with communications strategies;
- Identify opportunities to promote research outputs, events, and achievements through social media;
- Edit and format content to ensure clarity, consistency, and accessibility;
- Monitor both centres’ social media accounts, engaging with stakeholder comments and queries as appropriate, and sharing information from relevant partners;
- Design and deliver termly/quarterly newsletters for both Centres;
- Monitor basic social media performance metrics and contribute to reporting on communications activities.
Events support
- Support the planning and delivery of in-person and online research events such as seminars, workshops, and conferences;
- Coordinate logistics including bookings, registrations and materials;
- Liaise with speakers, suppliers, and stakeholders to support smooth delivery;
- Provide on-the-day support for in-person and online events;
- Assist with event promotion, including drafting invitations and social media content;
- Collect feedback and support basic evaluation of events.
General duties
- Maintain contact lists and support stakeholder communications;
- Provide formatting, editorial and design support for research outputs;
- Keep up to date with relevant tools and good practice in digital communications.
Skills and experience
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in communications, marketing, events, or a related field.
- Experience of social media management and digital content production.
- Experience of events coordination/support.
- Good organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment
- Willingness and availability to travel to attend events and meetings across the UK. On occasion this will mean working outside of normal office hours.
Desirable -
- Experience of working in a higher education or research environment.
- Familiarity with social media scheduling or analytics tools
- Experience creating digital visual content (e.g. Canva).
- Understanding of research process and management.
- Understanding of research communications or public engagement.
Location
LOCATION (on campus/working from home or combination) Remote – but with regular travel to the Warwick campus and London (variable, but approx. 1 day per week).
