The role of Netball Activator is an exciting opportunity to be part of the rapidly developing intramural programme run at LJMU. The intramural netball programme operates through the Student Living and Physical Activity Department.

The programme provides a fun, social and welcoming environment for anyone wanting to participate in netball regardless of their abilities, whilst also providing a secondary option for those unsuccessful during the JMSU netball trials.

As part of this commitment to increasing participation within netball across our student and staff populations, the Student Living and Physical Activity Department are recruiting Netball Activators to help organise, officiate and coordinate netball sessions, whilst ensuring an enjoyable and encouraging environment.

We also wish to support you in your development through providing various training, therefore enhancing your skill set and by association improving your future employability opportunities.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Liaise with the Duty Officer (participation) and Physical Wellbeing and Engagement Manager regarding any issues or concerns.
  • Umpire weekly Thursday afternoon fixtures between 4pm–7pm.
  • Ensure the efficient and effective operation of matchdays.
  • Support in operating the league through Playwaze (e.g. results, fixtures, etc.).

Skills and experience

To be successful as a Netball Activator, you will need:

  • Enthusiasm towards developing participation within netball
  • Confidence in officiating netball
  • Willingness to complete relevant development qualifications offered
  • The ability to make decisions under pressure, especially during Thursday afternoon fixtures
  • Excellent communication skills, including listening, questioning and delivering effective feedback, and the ability to quickly build trust and rapport with participants
  • The ability to motivate and inspire others
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others
  • Understanding of relevant health and safety legislation, and the ability to apply this in the workplace
