We are seeking to appoint a talented and enthusiastic Graduate Careers and Employability Information Intern.
Student Futures is LJMU’s Careers, Employability & Start-up Service. We provide a diverse range of services, experiences, opportunities & resources directly to students & graduates, designed to transform their skills & mindset, career agility and future success.
As first point of contact at our Careers Zone at Byrom Street, the Careers & Employability Information Intern offers a professional and friendly point of welcome, skilful triage of students' interests & needs and connection to the right services, resources & opportunities for them. You will act as an ambassador for student employability and the Student Futures department, its mission and services. You will be adept in supporting others to navigate our online tools & resources.
In working with our students to expand their horizons, skills & mindset and their sense of what's possible, you will make an important contribution to increasing high skilled employment amongst our graduates, their confidence & agency in the workplace and their progression over time.
Duties and responsibilities
- Promoting the benefits of Student Futures’ services, opportunities and events and engaging and motivating students to invest in their careers during and after their university time.
- Booking students and graduates into appointments via the university CRM system. Signposting to services & opportunities available from Student Futures and other relevant LJMU teams, including making referrals to the Start-Up Hub and Unitemps
- Answering telephone calls and emails to shared inboxes.
- Maintaining a strong awareness of careers, employability & enterprise-enhancing services & opportunities provided by LJMU departments outside of Student Futures, signposting students to these as appropriate to interests & needs.
- Supporting students on their onsite use of digital tools & resources to address simple enquiries.
- Under the direction of Digital Services and Engagement Manager, reviewing and promoting job & placement opportunities, including placing opportunities on our Careers Zone 24/7 digital jobs board.
- In liaison with the Digital Services and Engagement Officer, contributing to social media and supporting other campaigns to promote services, events and opportunities.
- Hosting & promoting appearances via social media from guest employers and other opportunity providers, encouraging students to engage
- Valuing and respecting the diversity of our students’ background and adjusting support and information taking into account cultural differences and prior career history.
Skills and experience
Essential (E) Factors
- 5 GCSEs at grades A* – C or equivalent qualification.
- An LJMU Degree in any discipline.
- A demonstrable understanding of issues related to the student experience, including the needs of a diverse student population.
- Demonstrable customer service experience. Able to explore a client’s preferences & needs and connect them to the right information, service or opportunity.
- Able to demonstrate a high level of professionalism in representing a service.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Highly organised. An ability to multi-task whilst remaining focussed. Prioritise and manage time effectively to meet deadlines and targets
- Able to work confidently & effectively with little supervision.
- Excellent all-round office, administrative and IT skills. Proficient in use of Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel and Outlook

- Recent experience of working with students in a professional capacity.
- Social media / marketing experience
- AI skills
