Description
Role
To provide a high-quality support function to the Department of Physics. You will primarily contribute to an asset management project requiring the collection of data and compilation of documentation of departmental research assets. You may be required to support other activities in the department. This could include assisting with the re-organisation of space and moving furniture or equipment and therefore there could be a manual handling element to the role. All necessary training and supervision will be provided. Note that this role does not involve conducting any research.
Duties and responsibilities
- Contribute to an asset management project requiring data collection and documentation of departmental research assets.
- Assist with the re-organisation of research and office and other spaces, auditing spaces and moving furniture and equipment as required (manual handling).
- Chaperoning contractors and Estates maintenance staff, as required, ensuring safety of both maintenance and research staff.
- Support departmental statutory compliance, by gathering data on e.g. water outlet flushing, LEV pre-use checks etc.
Skills and experience
Essential
- Good general level of science education or equivalent, or experience of working in a similar role
- Experience of working in a customer facing role
- Good oral and written skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively
- A can-do attitude with a high degree of flexibility
- Good IT skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office software and Outlook
- Some knowledge of laboratory hazards
- Highly organised with experience of managing and prioritising work and working to deadlines
- Experience of working or studying in an environment where procedures must be followed
- Demonstrate ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
Desirable
- Previous experience of accurately inputting into databases, maintaining manual/electric records and the analysis and manipulation of data
