Description

Role

With funding from the Warwick International Higher Education Academy (WIHEA), we are undertaking a student-led research project to investigate how team composition influences student experiences and outcomes in group-based learning.

The project evaluates a novel team allocation approach, where students are allocated to teams based on self-reported skills and working preferences. The allocation aims to create teams that are diverse in skills while maintaining compatibility in working styles.

We are seeking one Student Project Officer (SPO) to support the analysis of survey, attendance and assessment data collected from students who participated in the module. The successful candidate will help investigate how team diversity and students' perceptions of team balance relate to team effectiveness, learning outcomes, satisfaction and academic performance.

The Student Project Officer will work closely with academic staff but will also be expected to work independently, manage their own workload, and contribute ideas to the analysis and interpretation of findings. Experience with quantitative data analysis and statistical methods is essential.

To apply, please submit your CV and a one-page cover-letter answering the following questions:

  1. How would you analyse the dataset collected in this project (student preferences, team allocation variables, and student experience outcomes)? Please specify and briefly justify the statistical methods you would use.
  2. Provide examples of relevant research-related experience (e.g. literature review, survey analysis, coding, or presentation skills) and how these would support your contribution to this role.

Duties and responsibilities

  • The Student Project Officer will work remotely, with support from Computer Science and Student Opportunity staff to:
  • Conduct a literature review on team composition, diversity and group-based learning in higher education.
  • Conduct descriptive and inferential statistical analyses to investigate relationships between team composition and student outcomes.
  • Analyse survey responses to identify trends relating to team effectiveness, satisfaction, perceived team balance and learning outcomes.
  • Produce tables, figures and summaries suitable for research dissemination.
  • Contribute to research outputs, including a poster, presentation or draft paper.
  • Maintain accurate records of methods and analyses to ensure that findings are reproducible and transparent.
  • Attend meetings (on MS Teams) with the project team and present interim findings.

Skills and experience

  • Postgraduate or final year undergraduate with a background in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Psychology, Education or a related discipline involving statistical skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with proven experience conducting quantitative analysis and interpreting findings.

  • Understanding of statistical methods including descriptive statistics, correlations, regression and survey analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to present findings clearly through tables, figures and written reports.
  • Proficiency with IT tools including Excel
