The Community Physical Activity Internship is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about increasing participation in sport and physical activity, and engaging diverse communities in active, healthy lifestyles. This role supports the delivery and development of LJMU Physical Wellbeing Team’s participation and outreach programmes, which play a key role in improving physical wellbeing across students, staff, and the wider community.

As an intern, you will support the delivery of LJMU Move and wider participation programmes, helping to create engaging, accessible sessions and events. You will play a key role in connecting individuals to physical activity opportunities, supporting community engagement, and promoting positive lifestyle behaviours.
You will also be supported in your professional development, with access to training and opportunities that enhance your experience within the sport, physical activity, and wellbeing sector.
Duties and responsibilities
- Assist in delivering LJMU Move and wider participation programmes across campus and community settings, ensuring activities are inclusive and accessible.
- Support the planning and delivery of beginner-friendly, engaging physical activity sessions that encourage participation from all ability levels.
- Help create a welcoming, motivating environment that builds confidence and encourages long-term engagement in physical activity.
- Support community outreach initiatives aimed at engaging underrepresented groups and increasing participation in physical activity.
- Assist in the organisation of nutrition workshops and community garden development, therefore supporting LJMU’s sustainability initiatives.
- Assist in the organisation and delivery of events, campaigns, and community initiatives that promote active lifestyles and wellbeing.
- Provide an approachable and supportive presence during sessions, helping participants feel comfortable and engaged.
- Support the promotion of activities through social media, campaigns, and in-person engagement to increase awareness and participation.
- Assist with the collection of participation data, feedback, and insights to support programme evaluation and development, ensuring relevant KPIs are met.
- Ensure all sessions are delivered in line with health & safety and safeguarding requirements, maintaining a safe and inclusive environment.

- A genuine interest in physical activity, health, and wellbeing
- A positive, engaging, and approachable manner when working with participants
- Confidence in supporting and motivating individuals of all abilities
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A proactive attitude and willingness to support a range of activities and initiatives
- Willingness to undertake relevant training to enhance your skills and contribution
- An understanding of inclusive practice and engaging diverse communities
- Basic awareness of health & safety in activity environments
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required
WORKING HOURS:
Weekday shifts: Flexible 10am – 6pm depending on events (plus occasional weekends)
