Role
Unitemps are acting as an Employment Business, supplying temporary workers, in relation to this vacancy.
We are a professional organization for scientists who work across the disciplinary boundaries. The society works with universities across the UK and the main objectives of the Society are:
- To develop the awareness of the need for skilled interdisciplinary scientists in a broad range of subjects.
- To encourage ambition and advance science at the interface between the disciplines.
- To promote the propagation of scientific inter- and multi-disciplinary practice
- To develop and support a network for the sharing and cross-pollination of information, opportunities and research within the Natural Sciences.
- To run outreach activities for schools, hold conferences for undergraduate students and meetings with employers.
- To work with other learned societies, scientific institutions, organisations, governmental and private bodies, to support the development of an open network.
- To be proactive in the development of initiatives in support of inter-/multi-disciplinary science and Natural Sciences.
- To set a bar for Natural Sciences structured qualifications in the UK through the development of an accrediting arm of the Science Society.
Digital Interns help to raise the profile of Natural Sciences amongst potential applicants and employers through our social media. This entails planning, creating and posting content on our social media channels, coming up with templates to support different areas of communication and taking an overview of our digital presence and how this can be strengthened.
Start Date: 01/07/26
End Date: 3-month trial period, then ongoing work throughout the year.Working Hours: 2 to 3 hours per month over 10-11 months
Pay Rate: £12.71 an hourLocation: Candidates will be students at one of the institutions involved with the Society for Natural Sciences. We will be prioritising students at Nottingham for this contract.
Dress Code: Smart Casual

Duties and responsibilities
- Participate in editorial meetings to discuss digital content/projects and plan activity.
- Create posts for social media to promote the Society, society activity, recognition months and days, interdisciplinary science and key developments in the field and HE
- Creating a repository of templates and posts that can be used for specific themes through the year.
- Undertake photography and video work to support content creation and edit video content where required to produce finished videos which can be shared.
- Represent a range of interests and opportunities available in Natural Sciences programmes at member institutions of the Society equally without preference or favour Act as a role model for prospective students.
Skills and experience
Essential
- Natural Sciences Students or former Natural Sciences Student in the UK
- Member of the Society for Natural Sciences
- Communication skills
- Manage their own time
- Ability to work proactively and independently.
- Enthusiastic about science and engaged within their institution.
Desirable
- Use of social media
- Previous work representing university
- Video editing/photography
- Organization and planning of content
Location
Candidates will be students at one of the institutions involved with the Society for Natural Sciences.
